What are the Keb Agile Winter Trousers?
A slight step up from the Keb Agile but less heavy than the usual Keb Trousers, the Keb Agile Winter Trousers are a great, lighter-weight option for cold conditions. They combine warmth, durability and protection with features more suited to winter use, but we'll touch on that in more detail below.
What are they made of?
These trousers primarily use recycled nylon, polyester and elastane in a double-weave softshell material. The elastane gives this material a four-way stretch to optimise freedom of movement for steep inclines and more technical manoeuvres. Combining nylon and polyester also enhances longevity without adding excessive weight or bulk.
The double-weave construction is incredibly durable to withstand bumps and scrapes in rugged terrain, and provides ample protection in harsher conditions. It has a brushed inner that feels lovely and soft next to the skin and is smooth enough to glide nicely over long johns underneath, should you choose to layer up.
The material is treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) to increase the weather resistance and prevent light rain and snow from soaking in - although, please note, this doesn't make it fully waterproof.
If you were wondering, PFC-free DWRs are a much more sustainable alternative than conventional repellent treatments. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used initially in DWRs aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via water waste from factories, they stay out there and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, like many leading brands in the outdoor industry, Fjallraven has now made it a priority to cut out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a greener manufacturing process.
G1000® Eco Stretch patches reinforce high-wear areas, including the leg endings, knees and thigh pockets.
G1000® Eco Stretch is one of Fjallraven's own materials. It uses a blend of recycled polyester and cotton, which is lightweight, ventilating and hardwearing. It's also a more eco-friendly alternative to regular G1000®! You may have already guessed, but Eco Stretch features added stretch to provide flexibility where needed, ideal for these already stretchy softshell trousers.
You can adapt G1000® materials to different personal preferences or climatic conditions using Greenland Wax. The wax allows you to customise the fabric's properties, such as wind and water resistance and breathability; in this case, you would only apply them to the patches, not the whole pant.
Greenland Wax is easy to apply - you can literally do it anywhere! If you'd like to learn more about how to apply it correctly, check out our short YouTube tutorial by clicking here.
What are their features?
Though designed for winter, these trousers have zippered ventilation openings for intense adventures where you can work up a sweat easily. They may seem controversial, but trust me, you'll be thankful for them!
Belt loops allow you to attach a belt if you need to, and double up nicely for attaching accessory carabiners for essentials you want to keep handy.
Thigh pockets offer secure storage and keep your belongings out of the way, ensuring they won't restrict your movement when stepping high.
Boot hooks help to keep the trousers in place for increased warmth and weather protection, whilst zipped gussets at the end of each leg accommodate different types of footwear, from low walking shoes to chunky, high-ankle mountain boots.
Finally, as mentioned, the fit of these trousers is slightly roomier to cater for a baselayer underneath.
