What is the Expedition Fleece Hoodie?
It's a luxuriously soft, durable, anti-piling fleece that provides exceptional warmth and comfort without sacrificing breathability. Although it's primarily designed for high-energy active use in cold conditions, it works equally well to keep the chill at bay for slower-paced activities such as bird watching, photography, and bushcraft.
What is it made from?
The Expedition Fleece Hoodie comprises recycled polyester, polyester, and elastane, creating a highly durable anti-piling fleece with a luxuriously soft fleece inner. Its predominantly polyester construction prioritizes moisture management, wicking sweat away from your base layers, keeping you dry and comfortable while helping maintain your core temperature when working hard in cold conditions. The elastane content helps provide a reliable, comfortable stretch to the fleece, allowing it to move with you dynamically for unrestricted movement, whether climbing, scrambling, or hiking.
The fleece's robust outer face is tough enough to withstand the rigours of years of outdoor use yet smooth enough to enable easy layering by gliding effortlessly under your jacket. The super-soft fleece inner turns up the cosy factor and enhances the fleece's moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties.
The fabric is dyed using a CO2 closed-loop method, which uses reclaimed carbon dioxide instead of the vast quantities of water that traditional dyeing processes require. As if that wasn't enough, it also requires less energy and chemicals while still producing vibrant colours with minimal dye waste.
What are its features?
This cosy midlayer boasts a sturdy full-length front zipper that's designed with repairability in mind so that this fleece will last you a lifetime of adventures. Should it break after years of use, it can easily be replaced without being too tricky or affecting the rest of the fleece.
Raglan sleeves provide an unhindered range of motion whilst eliminating chafing under backpack straps, while the fitted hood maximizes heat retention and protects you from the cold.
For storage, there are two zippered hand pockets for keeping items such as your mobile phone, trail snacks and a multitool close to hand. The pockets are mesh-lined and can double up as ventilation zips. If you start to work up a sweat, simply open the zips to increase the airflow.
The cuffs are slightly extended to provide added coverage across the hands whilst reaching up and stretching, helping keep your hands warm, whatever the adventure. The cuffs can also be easily pulled up to expose the wrists if you need to cool down on tough sections of the trail. Unlike some fleeces, these cuffs have the perfect amount of stretch to stay put and not slip down once you start moving again.
How does it fit?
This practical midlayer uses Fjallraven's new body standard, which aims to fit its customers' posture, proportions, size, and shape more accurately. It features a regular fit, so there is enough wiggle room for layering while still sitting close enough to the body to retain heat for maximum thermal efficiency.
