What is the Mimic Alert Vest?
It's a warm and breathable synthetically insulated vest that keeps you comfortable during various outdoor activities, both high-energy and more leisurely. Ideal for wearing alone or underneath additional layers, it's a highly versatile, low-bulk addition to your wardrobe.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The vest uses Haglof's own Mimic Silver sheet insulation for low-bulk, reliable warmth, even when wet. Mimic Silver is a fantastic synthetic insulation that's incredibly breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's made from 100% recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains the performance and feel of virgin polyester. Unlike natural down, Mimic Silver can retain heat even when wet, making it a great all-around choice for active use in unpredictable climates. This sheet insulation also can’t migrate, unlike down. Thanks to its built-in stretch, it offers excellent flexibility, allowing it to move with you.
Outer: The Mimic Alert Vest is constructed from a durable 30-denier woven ripstop outer made from 100% recycled polyester. Although this material may feel thin to the touch, it's highly durable while being lightweight enough to enhance the vest's breathability and regulate your body temperature, preventing moisture buildup when you're working hard.
Lining: The vest is lined with a 30-denier woven stretch fabric, which is smooth to the touch, durable and stretchy enough to provide great freedom of movement. The material is made from polyester, 75% of which is recycled. This low bulk and breathable fabric sits neatly inside the vest without adding too much additional weight or affecting pack size.
The face fabric and lining are both finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to resist light rain or snow, although please note that this doesn't make it fully waterproof. PFC-free DWRs are much more responsible than regular water-repellent treatments, as they don't use harmful forever chemicals that cause damage to the environment and ecosystems.
Pockets: The pockets are lined with a soft woven Tafetta lining made from recycled polyester to protect your belongings from being scratched by the fabric and provide next-to-skin comfort for cold hands.
What are its features?
Much like the jacket, the Mimic Alert Vest features a streamlined feature set to keep weight and bulk to a minimum. It does, however, feature a stand-up collar to protect the back of your neck from cold winds and drafts and a soft, brushed chin guard to eliminate discomfort around the face when fully zipped.
For storage, you'll find two zippered hand pockets and one internal chest pocket ideal for securely stowing your cold-weather essentials, such as gloves, a beanie, a mobile phone and trail snacks.
A drawcord adjustable hem and elasticated armholes help keep warm air inside the vest and keep the elements out, enhancing the vest's thermal efficiency, even over chunky midlayers.
