What are the Alpine 850 Mitts?
These mitts are designed for some of the coldest, harshest places imaginable. Despite the enormous amount of warmth they offer, they weigh just 236g.
What are they made of?
Insulation: The insulation comes in two forms, down and synthetic. Montane use 70g of 850 fill power HyperDry goose down throughout the majority of the glove, backed up by 80g/sqm of PrimaLoft Gold. HyperDry down is different to untreated down in that if it gets wet, it'll retain more warmth, dry faster and loft better. Of course, nothing performs better in the wet than synthetic insulation, which is why you've got PrimaLoft there as well! The down is held in place via a box-wall construction, meaning the down sits in cubes rather than cylinders, decreasing the amount of heat that heat may escape.
Fabrics: Surrounding the insulation is a tough, weather-resistant Pertex Quantum fabric, while inside you've got Montane's own PEAQ fabric for greater comfort next to skin. A tough, grippy, reinforced palm provides a solid surface to grip tools with, and nylon reinforcements are placed in areas which are prone to abuse.
What are their features?
Their features include a long gauntlet with an adjustable closure to seal out snow and seal in warmth, an internal wrist pocket and an elasticated wrist strap.
