What is the Insulated Mountain Cap?
This hat is exactly what it says on the tin - an insulated mountain cap! It's designed to keep you warm and protected from changeable mountain conditions, whether you're hiking, scrambling, or on larger, multi-day expeditions abroad.
What is it made of?
Montane has used a mixture of recycled materials, including Pertex® Quantum Eco and PEAQ Down Eco with PFC-free DWR, filled with PrimaLoft® Silver insulation to construct the hat.
Insulation: The Primaloft® Silver insulation is 100% recycled and offers superior warmth and breathability for a synthetic sheet insulation.
Synthetic insulation is actually more beneficial than down in certain circumstances, as it doesn't lose heat and loft once wet. Therefore, this synthetic fill is hugely favourable in unpredictable weather as it offers the reassurance it will still feel warm if you get caught in a shower.
Outer: The outer is constructed with 100% recycled Pertex® Quantum Eco that feels lightweight, soft and is highly packable so that this hat won't take up an excessive amount of room in your kit bag! The material is designed to promote the insulation's loft and helps trap air to improve efficiency and warmth. The material is treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages any spills or light rain to bead off the fabric. However, DWR doesn't mean complete waterproof protection - if it gets completely soaked, the water will travel through the material.
Pertex® Quantum Eco is more sustainable than regular fabrics as it is 100% recycled. It utilises recycled yarns to reduce the demand for raw materials - a win for the more eco-conscious mountaineer!
Lining: The recycled PEAQ Down Eco liner feels soft and smooth next to the skin. It's breathable enough to manage temperature yet durable to ensure heavy use doesn't affect the condition and performance of the hat. It also has a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). PFC-free treatments are more sustainable than regular DWR treatments, as they don't use any harmful chemicals to the environment.
What features does it have?
It's constructed with recycled materials that don't compromise weight, warmth or packability. It has a soft peak and integrated ear flaps to protect you against weather beating down from any direction. The hat is pre-elasticated to optimise the fit across a wide range of head shapes and sizes.
There's a handy chin strap to keep the hat secure when the wind's blowing a hooley, which is removable if you'd prefer not to use it or want to strip down the weight. For storage, simply stuff the hat inside itself for a handy, efficient solution to fit in a pocket or kit bag.
