What is the First Light Stretch Hoodie?
It's a stretchy, insulated jacket designed for climbing, mountaineering, and ski-touring during winter. This jacket delivers exceptional warmth and packability, with ample freedom of movement to keep you comfortable during dynamic activities.
What is it made of?
The outer of the First Light Stretch comprises 20D nylon stretch ripstop, which is tough, lightweight, and flexible. The material is impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), adding to the material's water resistance, encouraging light rain and snow to bead away.
PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), used to add water repellent to textiles, aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
The lining is made with stretchy woven nylon to enhance freedom of movement. The synthetic insulation is sandwiched between the outer and lining.
The First Light Stretch is insulated with migration-resistant PrimaLoft® Gold Active Insulation.
Primaloft® Gold Active is a synthetic insulation that provides ample warmth, even when wet. The ability to retain heat when wet is a huge advantage to synthetic insulation compared to down, alongside it being a vegan alternative. This insulation is also incredibly breathable and helps to regulate body temperature, balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's made from recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. This insulation does not migrate and has a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement - perfect for climbing, ski touring, or even using hiking poles.
The primary fabric within this jacket is bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
What are its features?
The insulation in this jacket is strategically mapped throughout the body, shoulders, and arms to provide warmth where it's needed most and reduce the overall bulk of the design.
An adjustable, helmet-compatible hood protects the head and neck and can be easily adjusted using the drawcord adjuster.
Underarm gussets provide a range of motion for reaching the next hold or handling equipment.
For storage, there are two concealed zipped hand pockets and an internal chest pocket. You can pack the jacket into the internal chest pocket for an easy, on-the-go storage solution; inside the pocket you'll find a carabiner clip loop, too, meaning you can hook it onto a harness or backpack, keeping your jacket within reach.
Lastly, a low-profile, single-adjust hem can be cinched to seal the warmth in and keep the cold breeze out.
