What is the Cirrus Jacket?
The Cirrus Jacket should be in every outdoor enthusiast's kit cupboard. The combination of a fully recycled Cirrus HL insulation and recycled Pertex Quantum outer fabric makes it perfect for virtually any outdoor activity, from winter mountaineering to dog walking. In our wet, windy and unpredictable climate, the Cirrus Jacket just makes sense.
What is it made of?
Insulation: Starting with what gives the Cirrus its warmth, Rab use their completely synthetic and fully recycled Cirrus HL (high loft) insulation to ensure warmth in almost all conditions. Down is still the lightest and warmest insulation available, however, it can't deal with wet conditions, rendering it almost useless if the heavens open and you're stuck without a shell. The Cirrus Jacket, on the other hand, will retain around 90% of its warmth, even when soaking wet, making it a far more versatile option for those who are after a do-it-all jacket for cold, damp conditions. This latest variant of Cirrus feels more like down than ever before; it lofts similarly and has that 'light and fluffy' feel. As well as this, it's fully recycled, so not only are you getting a fantastic jacket but one with environmental credentials to match.
Fabrics: Surrounding the insulation is a fully recycled Pertex Quantum outer fabric. Quantum packs down to a fraction of its original size, weighs very little and features a durable water repellent coating to provide weather protection if you get caught in the rain without a shell. Inside, a similar fabric is used but in a lighter, softer, more pliable variant.
What are the features?
Two hand pockets and one internal pocket store all your usual bits and bobs, while lightweight stretchy cuffs and an adjustable hem allow you to trap extra warmth or conversely ventilate if you get a bit toasty. Lastly, the Cirrus will pack into its own pocket for compact storage when travelling.
How does it fit?
It features a very similar fit to Rab's legendary Microlight jacket. It's an average fit in the body with enough room in the shoulders and back to stay put while reaching above your head. Length is also about average, suiting 99% of users.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Cirrus Jacket can either be used as a super-warm midlayer with a shell over the top in wet, windy conditions or as an outer layer the rest of the time. Thanks to the wind and water-resistant outer fabric and low-maintenance insulation, it can be used on its on far more than a traditional down jacket.
