What is the R1 TechFace Hoodie?
The R1 TechFace is a lighter version of Patagonia's R2 TechFace Hoodie. It's a lightweight softshell that seamlessly blends breathability, durability, and comfort into one functional design.
What is it made of?
This jacket is made with solution-dyed recycled polyester and spandex, which is durable, comfy and incredibly breathable. The stretchy nature of the material also offers ample freedom of movement for dynamic activities like climbing or using hiking poles. Solution dyeing is much less harmful than conventional methods used to dye garments, which often use chemicals. Solution dyeing also uses less water and CO2, helping to lower this jacket's environmental impact even further.
The material is impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), which increases its water resistance and encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
The material is bluesign® approved, meaning it's manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What features does it have?
A hood shields the head, ears, and neck from brisk winds, while the full-zip configuration makes for easy on-and-off. The zip can also ventilate the jacket if you need to dump heat quickly.
A chest pocket on the left side provides storage space for small essentials, such as a mobile phone, keys, trail snacks, or energy gels.
