What is the R2 CrossStrata Hoodie?
It's a warm softshell hoodie that provides ample weather protection and breathability in rugged environments, no matter your activity. Thanks to its minimal, versatile design, you could even wear it for casual, everyday errands, too!
What is it made of?
The main body of this hoodie is made using R2® CrossStrata breathable stretch double weave, which comprises recycled polyester and spandex. This material is incredibly durable and provides ample protection for exploring rugged environments without compromising comfort and breathability.
Panels of recycled polyester, certified by OceanCycle, help reinforce high-wear areas whilst keeping the design to a minimum. OceanCycle is a social enterprise that uses a systematic approach to combat the ocean-bound plastic emergency. They build demand for ocean-bound plastics by making it easier for corporations to buy them. Due to the higher demand, recyclers are encouraged to process more waste material from at-risk coastal communities. People who live in these communities collect the material; these people have also been educated in managing waste and turning it into profit. This cycle, therefore, helps to prevent the build-up of waste materials that would otherwise litter our oceans.
The material is impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), which increases its water resistance and encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
A scuba-style hood protects the head, ears and neck, shielding you from that icy breeze when exploring above the tree line.
Multiple zipped pockets make room for storing essentials such as snacks, keys, a purse or doggy bags for your furry friend. Pockets are also harness-compatible, ensuring total accessibility when climbing and mountaineering.
Cuffs feature a passive adjustment system, stretching and securing themselves around the arms and wrists. Passive adjusters are a great alternative to bulky Velcro patches, as they help minimise volume, making it easier to add layers over the top.
