What are the Abisko Winter Stretch Trousers?
They're warm, stretchy, durable trekking pants designed for colder conditions. Their brushed softshell material is incredibly cosy and comfortable on the skin, making them perfect for tough mountain days during the winter, whether trekking, hiking or scrambling to reach the summit.
What are they made of?
The Abisko Winter Stretch Trousers use a combination of recycled nylon, polyester and elastane. Though recycled, the nylon yarn certainly doesn't compromise performance. It adds durability and extra abrasion resistance, making the trousers tough enough for regular use in rugged terrain. Of course, it also reduces the environmental impact, giving these trousers some eco-friendly credentials.
Polyester gives the trousers a smoother, softer feel and reduces overall weight and bulk without impacting longevity. At the same time, the elastane creates a four-way stretch, often needed for steep inclines and techy manoeuvres, enhancing mobility and helping to prevent any trouser-splitting accidents!
The material is brushed inside, which feels super cosy next to skin, and finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). This DWR encourages light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in; however, please note that this does not make them fully waterproof. If you weren't sure, avoiding PFCs (per/poly-fluorinated chemicals) helps to protect the environment by stopping the use of nasty 'forever chemicals' that cause permanent damage to our ecosystem.
What are their features?
A high-waisted fit is a highlight of these trousers. Personally, I find that I feel more comfortable, confident and 'tucked in' wearing high-waisted trousers, and I know many ladies will agree! (Disclaimer: I'm also fully aware that you don't need to 'look good' on the hill; it's quite rare you often look your best on top of a mountain!)
An elasticated waistband still gives you room to breathe, whilst articulated knees enhance flexibility around the joints.
For storage, there are zipped hand pockets for small valuables and essential trail snacks, plus a security pocket in the side seam which is ideal for keeping your car keys safe.
Finally, adjustable leg endings allow you to cinch the fabric to keep nasties out like snow or scree.
