What are the Apex 8000 Down Salopettes?
Featuring a down insulation, a Pertex outer fabric and a fully articulated fit, these salopettes are as warm and weather resistant as they are comfortable. They're designed for some of the most extreme environments on earth, whether that's exploring polar regions or summiting 8000m peaks.
What are they made of?
Insulation: Providing the warmth inside the Apex Salopettes is a huge 300g of water-resistant, fluorocarbon-free HyperDry goose down at 850 fill power. HyperDry down tackles the issue that natural down suffers from; when it gets wet, it loses almost all of its warmth. HyperDry down is unique in the fact that it uses a fluorocarbon-free treatment to add a water resistant coating to the down itself. Tests show that this down will last 80% longer than other water resistant down on the market in the industry standard DWR shake test. The down used is audited by Allied Feather and Down, meaning they're able to trace the down right back to the source, making sure it's from birds who have lived a happy, free-range existence and that have been slaughtered in the most humane way possible. All of this down is held in place in a boxwall construction, meaning there are virtually no cold spots which would usually occur with a stitch-through construction.
Outer fabric: Surrounding all of this insulation is a Pertex Quantum Pro fabric. Quantum Pro is highly water resistant, highly wind resistant, tough and yet extremely lightweight. In this iteration, it features a durable water repellent coating on the inside and outside for maximum weather resistance. A ripstop version of this fabric is used to reinforce high wear areas such as the seat and instep.
What are the features?
Down the side of each leg you've got large, extra tough YKK zips with an insulated internal baffle to reduce the amount of heat that will escape. These zips are three-way, meaning you've got plenty of options when it comes to ventilation or simply removing them easily. If you do have the zips slightly open for ventilation, there are press studs on the internal flap to prevent snow ingress. There's also another zip on the rear so you're able to 'do your business' without removing the salopettes and freezing; even the zip on the fly is positioned in a way that it won't be blocked by a climbing harness.
Around the front, there's a super stretchy bib with a zipped pocket and an electronics pocket — the placement of this pocket keeps your tech warm as you'll have your jacket layered over the top. Fixed braces with silicone grippers keep the salopettes firmly in place and can be adjusted easily via some velcro tabs. There are more velcro tabs on the waist for further adjustment and the ankle cuffs are pre-elasticated to trap heat. Lastly, Montane include a compression sack to keep the salopettes compact while travelling and a storage sack for safe storage when they're not in use.
