What are the Terra Pants?
These are the ultimate hardwearing pants for days out on the hill or in the mountains. A Montane classic, the Terra Pants are made with incredibly durable yet lightweight fabric to provide the utmost comfort and longevity to withstand rugged terrain.
What are they made of?
The bulk of the trouser is made from Montane's Tactel fabric, an almost cotton-feeling material that is wind and water resistant, tough, quick drying and about as comfortable as a pair of pyjamas.
This material is then reinforced with Cordura patches on the seat, knees and inner ankles (the main wear points). Cordura on the seat protects against moisture and rubbing while sat down, the knees when climbing and the inner ankles when wearing crampons or wading through brambles.
Both materials are treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent), which enhances water resistance without using chemicals that are harsh to the environment.
What are their features?
The Terra Pants have a flexible, part-elasticated waistband that allows you to move more freely and fit comfortably around different shapes and sizes. Having that extra bit of stretch around the midsection also makes it easier to accommodate a baselayer underneath in colder climates.
It has a removable webbing belt, which is a huge bonus. The belt is lightweight, durable and super flexible, making it perfect for more technical mountain pursuits. However, if you want to minimise weight or just find it comfier without, you can simply take it off. You could even wear it with another pair of trousers!
The zipped fly and button closure at the front makes it easy to answer the call of nature if you need to, and keeps your pants nicely in place, with your undies out of sight - as long as you remember to fasten them back up afterwards...
For storage, two zipped mesh-lined hand pockets sit out of the way on each side. They make a great place to store smaller essentials like snacks and energy gels, or double up as ventilation for when you're working up a sweat. Simply leave the zips undone to allow airflow through the mesh bags inside.
There's also a rear zipped pocket, ideal for storing bulkier items like a mobile phone or GPS, as it keeps them from hindering your movement when stretching or stepping up high.
Zipped, mesh-lined thigh vents allow you to dump some heat quickly, and ankle adjustments at the bottom allow you to accommodate different sizes and types of footwear.
