What is the M10 Storm Bib?
It's an entirely PFC-free waterproof bib that provides complete storm protection for various outdoor activities, whether hiking, climbing, or mountaineering, and is made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory™ to Patagonia's very own H2No® standard.
What is it made of?
The M10 Storm Bib is primarily constructed using PFC-free H2No® Performance Standard Shell, which comprises three-layer Econyl® 100% recycled nylon ripstop with a slick jersey backer, a waterproof/breathable barrier and a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent).
The bibs also feature a 100% recycled polyester ripstop with a PFC-free DWR and a four-way stretch for enhanced flexibility and freedom of movement. The scuff guard panels use a combination of recycled polyester and polyurethane mesh knit to further improve durability without adding excessive weight.
H2No® is Patagonia's very own performance standard, defined by years of material testing. It sets a benchmark for waterproofness, breathability, and durability to ensure that this product will perform for life (as long as you look after it properly, of course).
Econyl® is a 100% recycled material with similar properties to nylon, ensuring it's durable enough to survive outdoor use. This material offers a more responsible solution to longer-lasting materials than conventional nylon and is made from old fishing nets, waste carpets, and other abandoned textiles.
As mentioned, the material is completely PFC-free and impregnated with a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR), which adds to its water resistance and encourages light rain and snow to bead away.
Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in earlier DWRs can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? The brand pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
The streamlined design keeps bulk to a minimum, ensuring wearing this product with a climbing harness will be comfortable all-day-long.
Stretchy, bike-inspired suspenders help to keep the bib secure and in place without restricting movement, and elasticated silicone details provide extra grip for the material.
An articulated pattern and high-step gusset allows for exceptional mobility in steep or tricky terrain.
Small pockets are perfect for stowing essentials such as snacks, energy gels, gloves or finger tape. Plus, boot compatible cuffs accommodate chunky mountain boots with ease.
A built-in RECCO® reflector increases your safety tenfold by making you more searchable to rescuers in worst-case scenarios, without the need for power or manual activation and without adding weight or bulk to the product. RECCO® technology was initially designed in response to an avalanche tragedy and launched in 1983. It's a two-part system that enables rapid, directional pinpointing of your precise location with a harmonic radar, helping you feel more protected during extreme activities in remote environments.
