What are the Ascendor Light Pants?
They're lightweight, stretchy and comfortable outdoor trousers for use throughout the warmer months. Designed to provide the perfect balance of breathability, freedom of movement and protection from the elements, they're highly versatile and ideal for various outdoor activities and summer alpine use.
What are they made from?
The Ascendor Light Pants are predominantly created from Matrix™ single weave stretch nylon, with Matrix™ RX reinforced kick strips to the bottom hem.
Matrix™ is a specialised line of softshell fabrics selected by Rab for their unique performance qualities. Matrix™ single weave stretch nylon comprises polyamide and elastane and is wind-resistant, air-permeable and offers excellent levels of breathability. This comfortable material also provides UPF protection to shield your skin from sun exposure. It's also exceptionally light and stretchy for unhindered movement for climbing and scrambling in warm climates. The trousers are lined with smooth recycled polyester fabric for added coverage, durability and increased moisture-wicking capabilities.
The Matrix™ RX reinforcements also comprise polyamide and elastane. However, it has incredibly tough and durable yarns woven into the fabric to prevent tears. This allows the material to withstand high levels of abrasion in rugged environments, making it the perfect choice to reinforce high-wear areas.
The trousers are finished with a fluorocarbon-free durable water repellent (DWR). This water-repellent coating offers light protection against rain showers. However, it doesn't mean the material is fully waterproof. Using a fluorocarbon-free treatment is much more sustainable than regular treatments because they don't use chemicals harmful to the environment.
What are their features?
The comfortable, part-elasticated waistband is flat, so it can sit smoothly next to the skin, wicking away excess moisture while allowing for extra breathing room and improved mobility due to its stretchy nature.
A double snap waist closure with a YKK® zip fly firmly secures the trousers. Meanwhile, the breathable, moisture-wicking Matrix™ fabric helps you regulate your temperature and reduce sweat build-up by allowing air to pass through easily, as well as providing high UPF protection on those sunny routes.
Two zipped, mesh-lined hand pockets are great for keeping small trail essentials like snacks or lip balm close at hand. They double as ventilation zips and can be opened up to increase airflow throughout the trousers. A zippered thigh pocket provides extra space for when you don't want your phone or other valuables getting in the way mid-climb. All of the pockets have been thoughtfully optimised to allow easy access to your essentials whilst wearing a climbing harness.
The diamond-shaped gusset at the crotch takes the stress off the centre seam. An essential detail if you're stretching and moving around a lot on the rockface, as nobody wants split trousers!
Knee articulation allows dynamic movement of the legs, often required during strenuous outdoor activities such as alpine climbing or scrambling.
The trousers are finished with reinforced kick patches and hems for added durability in high-wear areas. Whilst the ankle hems themselves can accommodate up to a B2 mountaineering boot.
