What are the Ascendor Pants?
They're slim-fitting, midweight trousers primarily designed for technical climbing and mountaineering, which work equally well for hiking and trekking. They're built from protective Matrix™ softshell, with robust kicker instep reinforcements and a great range of movement for challenging adventures above the tree line.
What are they made from?
The Ascendor Pants are built with highly wind and weather-resistant, Matrix™ softshell fabric with durable reinforcement panels in high-wear areas. Matrix™ is a family of softshell fabrics specially chosen by Rab for their unique performance properties. This one is a bonded 2-layer Matrix™ double weave material that also offers a high level of UV/UPF protection, whilst still being lightweight and durable, making it the perfect choice for adventuring above the tree line.
The high-wear reinforcement panels are made from an exceptionally durable material for extra protection from rough surfaces and crampons. The outer is finished with a fluorocarbon free DWR, for an extra degree of protection from wet weather.
What are their features?
The trousers feature a deep, high-stretch waistband for comfortable use under a climbing harness and rucksack hip belt. Articulation around the knees provides a better range of movement for various activities, both on the mountain and around camp. There's also a long length gusset at the crotch, which helps to take the pressure away from vital seams, so you don't have to worry about any embarrassing trouser-splitting incidents.
For storage, there are two zipped, mesh-lined hand pockets, which are perfect for storing energy gels and hill snacks, or ventilation if you're working up a sweat. Simply leave the pockets open to draw air in through the mesh bag, and close them once you've cooled back down. A single thigh pocket provides space for bulkier items, such as a mobile phone or GPS, that might hinder your movement if placed in the hand pockets. All three pockets have been positioned to be compatible with a climbing harness.
At the bottom of the leg, reinforced kicker patches and hems add durability to high-wear areas where boots or crampons have a higher chance of snagging as you walk. You can also adapt the size of the bottom hem to your boots or shoes using the zipped ankle gusset.
