What are the Ace Pants?
The Ace Pants are versatile, durable softshell trousers that work brilliantly as outdoor workwear or general outdoor pants. Their technical construction and robust fabrics make them the ideal piece for mountaineers, mountain guides, hikers and general outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy spending their time exploring rugged, remote terrain.
What are they made of?
A mixture of light and heavyweight softshell gives the Ace Pants the durability and resistance they need to survive in demanding climates.
The main fabric is Durable 2FS heavy duty double weave, made of 49% recycled polyamide, 43% polyester and 8% elastane, making these pants thick and robust to be able to take a beating from rock and rough surfaces. It’s reinforced with a 3L fabric that has a PU membrane for added longevity, and finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent).
DWR encourages rain and snow to bead off the fabric, although won’t make it fully waterproof. So, if the weather is posing more of a challenge, it’ll be a good idea to pack a shell layer to chuck over the top, just in case. PFC-free treatments are much more eco-friendly compared to conventional treatments, as they don’t use per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment, giving these trousers a few extra brownie points in the happy planet department.
What are their features?
The laminate reinforcements are strategically placed on the seat, knees and lower legs to add extra weather and abrasion resistance for the highest wear areas. The knee reinforcement patches have openings to fit knee pads inside for added protection.
With the Ace Pants, you also have the option to attach Tierra suspenders for burly mountain jobs, should you prefer.
Two hand pockets are perfect for storing smaller items like snacks and energy gels, whilst the large pocket on the leg is ideal for bulky GPS devices or mobile phones that might potentially get in your way if they were to be stored anywhere else. The pocket bag has brushed mesh to stop screens from being scratched and feels nice and smooth from the inside.
Ventilation zippers are placed on the outer side of each leg, and yep, you guessed it, they provide extra ventilation for intense activities when you’re working up a sweat. Each opening has internal mesh designed to keep snow out, ensuring you don’t get more than you bargained for when they’re undone.
The end of the leg has a built-in zipped gusset to better fit around alpine boots, whilst the hem has a cord adjustment and shoe hook for hiking boots and shoes, optimising the fit according to your footwear and activity.
