What is the Singi X-Anorak?
Good question! It's a lightweight, weather-resistant jacket that performs exceptionally in changeable conditions. The versatile design looks much less techy than your standard winter shell jacket, making it an ideal trail-to-town piece.
What is it made of?
This jacket is made from 100% high-density ripstop, calendered BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) cotton.
The Better Cotton Initiative is a world-leading sustainability initiative for cotton. It works to help communities centred around cotton farming to survive and thrive whilst contributing to the protection and restoration of our environment. How do they do this? There are many targets and objectives set by the BCI each year to help them reach their end goal; for example, aiming to embed sustainable cotton farming practices and policies, enhancing the well-being and economic development of cotton farmers, workers and communities that rely on cotton production as a primary source of income, and driving global demand for sustainably produced cotton. That's just to name a few! After a decade of operation, over a fifth of the world's cotton is now being made under the Better Cotton standard - a number that will hopefully grow over the years to come.
Though sustainable, this cotton doesn't compromise quality, or performance! Its dense nature is incredibly durable and abrasion resistant, meaning it'll be able to take a hell of a beating and still last you for years to come.
Calendering fabric (exposing it to pressure and heat) enhances the material's water and wind resistance and breathability, and allows you to wax it if required, which is handy for increasing that weather protection even further. Please note, that being water resistant isn't the same as being waterproof - it will protect you in light rain/snow and showers, but potentially may become damp when exposed to prolonged, heavy rain.
What are its features?
Seams are double-stitched with Coats Dual Duty thread, which is super durable, and covered with thin tape on the inside to provide reinforcement and help prevent rain from leaking.
The fixed hood provides added protection for your face and ears. It has a moldable brim and an adjuster at the rear, allowing you to dial down the fit. A non-chafing, brushed tricot chin guard enhances comfort and helps to prevent the zip from rubbing or catching when fully fastened.
Brass button details have a stainless finish. This style uses an energy-saving plating technique to help reduce water and chemical consumption - another eco-friendly credential to add to the mix.
For storage, there are two hand pockets, and one kangaroo pocket with an inner envelope pocket, that works well for bulkier items like a hat, gloves or map. All pockets have a zip fastening to help keep your belongings secure, giving you extra peace of mind.
Cuffs are also reinforced with hardwearing piping and reflex yarn. Toggle adjustments on the cuffs allow you to cinch in the fabric and adapt the fit over chunky gloves or mitts.
Hem cord channels are strengthened with Ripstape for additional robustness and snag/abrasion resistance.
There are also drawcord adjustments around the waist and on the hem, meaning you could style the jacket to be a little more fitted for days in town, or cinch in the bottom to keep the weather out. These adjusters have easy repair designs, meaning if anything were to tear or break (which is already unlikely), you wouldn't have to throw the jacket into landfill.
A detachable crotch strap (sounds odd, right? Bear with me here) keeps the bottom of the anorak in place and stops it from flying upwards in the wind. It also doubles up nicely as a belt or a packing strap if you're on a mission with big backpacks or gear bags. Not so odd now, huh?
Finally, if the weather's a little mild, you can ventilate the jacket using the allocated side zippers.
