Mountaineering
What is the Eigerjoch Advanced IN Hooded Jacket?
The Eigerjoch Advanced IN is the ultimate jacket for challenging expeditions, alpine routes and technical mountaineering missions. It prioritises warmth and weight and features mapped insulation to deliver exceptional warmth and temperature regulation.
What is it made of?
The outer fabric and lining are constructed with Pertex® Quantum made from polyamide (nylon), which is highly durable. Polyamide is extremely lightweight, packable and breathable, and feels lovely and smooth against the skin. It has built-in Diamond Fuse technology developed to boost abrasion resistance, perfect for exploring rugged terrain.
The material is treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) to add water resistance to the jacket. It encourages light rain and snow to bead off the fabric instead of soaking in, without the use of nasty per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment. However, if you get stuck in a heavy downpour, you might want to chuck a shell jacket over the top.
As mentioned, there are two different fillings used to insulate the jacket, one is synthetic, and one is goose down.
Primaloft® Gold Active insulation is a synthetic insulation used in the shoulders, hood, back, and sleeve ends - areas more exposed to the elements or where backpacks will sit. It provides plenty of flexibility and breathability for high-output activities, allowing excess heat and moisture to escape to regulate body temperature as you work up a sweat. Synthetic insulation is generally more durable than down and stays warm when it gets damp, so it makes sense to place it in these areas.
90/10 850FP HyperDry™ Goose Down is found in every other area of the jacket, providing maximum loft and warmth whilst improving packability to suit mountaineers and alpinists trying to refine their pack weight and size. HyperDry™ down features a unique fluorocarbon-free treatment that adds a light water repellent to the down. The treatment allows the down to stay lofted when it gets damp (but not wholly wet) in light rain showers without using harmful fluorocarbons.
The down is responsibly sourced, ensuring that it doesn't come from birds who have been mistreated, force-fed or live-plucked. What are its features?
The Hood of the Eigerjoch Advanced is helmet-compatible, allowing you to fit a climbing helmet underneath easily. It has a reinforced peak to help keep rain and snow off your face and has a complete adjustment system that allows you to remove any dead space with a couple of quick pulls on the drawcords.
Two harness-compatible pockets on the front are perfect for snacks, energy gels, gloves or a GPS device. They're fastened with secure zip fastenings to give you peace of mind that nothing gets dropped along your route. You also have a zipped internal chest pocket for more valuable items like a mobile phone or emergency cash.
Cuffs are elasticated to enhance flexibility at the joints and improve heat retention, while drawstrings around the hem allow one-handed adjustment to cinch the bottom of the jacket.
Overall, the jacket packs down small and can even be stowed away in the front pocket to tuck neatly into a backpack or kit bag.
Whilst manufacturing this product, Mammut has closely worked with FairWear, a non-profit organisation, to ensure safe and fair working conditions for factory workers and protect their rights, giving the Eigerjoch Advanced some extra brownie points for ethical and environmental responsibility.
