What is the Annapurna Jacket?
Designed to deal with high altitude and polar conditions, the Annapurna Jacket is perfect for Annapurna itself. Thanks to its technical construction and quality down insulation, it's the ideal piece for hardcore expeditions over peaks up to 7000m and long exposure to freezing conditions.
What is it made of?
Face Fabric: Introduced almost 30 years ago, Drilite® Loft was totally ahead of its time. Drilite® Loft is a specialised fabric that offers lightweight, breathable, water-resistant protection. It uses a polyurethane membrane, bonded to the reverse of a 100% nylon face, to exceed a hydrostatic head (HH) of 1500mm, making it ideal for both down and synthetically insulated products, often intended for extreme use and adventures in the depths of winter. The specific material used for the Annapurna is 40 denier to give that extra bit of durability for survival in rugged mountain terrain.
Lining: The Annapurna is primarily lined with recycled polyamide that has a smooth yet durable finish. It's comfortable and lightweight, and being recycled (of course) is much better for the environment too!
Insulation: This piece uses a minimum content of 90-10 700 fill power Pure Down insulation for maximum warmth and lesser weight. With the jacket weighing just over 1kg in total, this Pure Down insulation is incredibly light yet doesn't compromise quality. It ensures optimum performance in extreme conditions without the extra bulk of standard expedition jackets.
Concerned about animal welfare? No worries, so are we! These fluffy little feathers come from a Down Codex® audited source. Down Codex® stamps indicate that there was no unnecessary harm caused to birds when sourcing 100% of the down insulation and that it came from an ethical, traceable source.
In the front body, lower sleeves and the shoulders, M.E have used synthetic Polarloft® to resist compression, retain warmth in exposed areas and prevent the insulation from migrating when wearing packs and equipment. Polarloft® is a high-performance synthetic insulation developed to thrive in places where down cannot. It provides excellent weather resistance whilst offering superior warmth and comfort to help you feel your best, unlike down, which loses heat and loft when wet.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
700 Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
What are its features?
A fully insulated Mountain HC (Helmet Compatible) Hood provides extra protection and versatility in the mountains. You can wear it over a helmet, making it ideal for multi-activity missions. When you're not wearing a helmet, you can cinch in any excess volume using the adjuster cords to keep it comfortably in place.
An offset boxwall construction optimises the loft of the down by giving it more room to spread out, meaning it can fluff up more effectively and trap more heat inside. Offset baffles help to reduce the amount of warm air escaping through the stitching, as each line of stitching is covered by another baffle. This clever design enhances overall performance and warmth for exposed, wintry conditions.
A reflective internal scrim in the sleeves reflects your body heat to increase warmth and help keep the weight and bulk down by using less fill.
The two-way centre zip is handy when wearing a climbing harness as it allows access around the bottom of the jacket without having to unfasten the top half, keeping you covered at all times.
Plenty of pockets give you lots of storage options for essentials and small belongings that you may want to access quickly. Two zipped hand warmer pockets are great for warming up your digits or for stowing away snacks and energy gels. These two pockets are lined with Octayarn fleece lining, a specially developed fabric designed to insulate, wick moisture away and dry quickly whilst keeping weight at an absolute minimum. It offers the thickness of an 80D fabric with only half the fibre weight.
Two Napoleon chest pockets work well for stowing away large gloves or a GPS, as they are easy to access, even with one hand.
Two internal drop pockets also work well for mitts or keeping water bottles inside to prevent them from freezing. Last but not least, there's a small, internal zipped pocket for small essentials and valuables that you want to keep safe and protected.
Finally, adjustable cuffs allow you to adapt the fit around accessories like a smartwatch or gloves, while you can use the dual tether hem drawcords to cinch in the material at the bottom to keep the heat in.
