What is the Earthrise Vest?
Made with a fully recycled construction, the Earthrise Vest still provides a high level of quality and warmth to keep you cosy during autumn and winter. Wear it as a lightweight outer layer during the milder autumn months or as a comfortable midlayer later in the year as temperatures drop.
What is it made of?
The outer fabric and lining are made of 100% recycled 20D polyamide, which is lightweight and durable. The outer is downproof, helping prevent down clusters and feathers from leaking through the fabric, while the lining is smooth and feels really comfy next to the skin. This material is coated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent), encouraging water to bead off the fabric. However, it doesn't offer complete waterproof protection for when the heavens start to open.
All the down insulation used to fill this vest is recycled, meaning it contains duck and goose down reclaimed from various sources such as pillows and bedding. Being recycled doesn't mean the down is lesser quality; this insulation has a minimum fill power of 700 and at least is made up of 85% down clusters, offering a high level of heat retention for cold weather and a fantastic warmth to weight ratio. Down insulation is also highly compressible, making it much easier to pack down and stuff away into a kit bag if you're travelling for multiple days.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
PFC-free DWR - PFC-free DWR's are much more environmentally friendly than regular treatments, as they don't contain the PFC's (per- and poly-fluorinated chemicals) that damage the environment once released through waste water from the manufacturing process.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. What are its features?
Generally, the vest is light and low bulk due to its stitch-through narrow baffle construction. The baffles are individually filled with down, keeping the insulation in place to create an even spread of warmth and preventing down migration. Narrow baffles give a much more contemporary, versatile look, so you can easily wear this gilet casually around town as well as in the mountains without looking out of place.
There is a moulded YKK® zip on the front with an insulated baffle at its rear. This baffle prevents cold spots from developing at the entry for maximum heat retention to keep you feeling toasty all day long.
Two hand warmer pockets are ideal for storing essentials like snacks, energy gels, a mobile phone or earphones, while the internal zipped pocket is much better for storing valuables like car keys or a wallet.
Armholes are elastane bound to provide extra stretch and freedom of movement, perfect for scrambling or tackling steep ascents where your arms might require maximum mobility. At the bottom of the gilet, you can adjust the hem using the dual tether hem drawcords to optimise the fit and increase heat retention.
All of this goodness can pack down so small it fits inside its own hand pocket! The pocket has twin carabiner loops, allowing you to attach it to carabiners and hook the vest onto a daypack or belt loop when you don't need to wear it.
