The Nigor WickiUp 4 tent uses a traditional pyramid design to provide oodles of internal space and head height, this design has been used for years and has proved stable in all conditions, so Nigor felt little need to re-invent the wheel. They have however used some of the most technologically advanced fabrics to keep the weight to an absolute minimum without sacrificing internal space.
A single upright DAC aluminium pole provides the structure and supports both the inner and flysheet. The ends of the pole are rounded to avoid damage to the fabrics but if your are camping on soft ground they can sink in so our top tip is to place a flat round object under the pole to spread the load such as a plastic plate or even a Marmite lid!
The flysheet is made from a fabric called GorLyn 20 which is a siliconised ultra-light ripstop 6.6 nylon with a hydrostatic head of 3000mm and is finished to a very high standard and features wire reinforced vents and multiple guying points to cope with extreme conditions. Another cool feature of this densely woven fabric is the ability to self heal, if you get a small puncture in the flysheet simply rub the fabric to bind the fibres back together. The single entrance has a long zip so you don't have to stoop to get in and a nice feature is the orange pegging tab on the flysheet that corresponds with the orange tab on the inner to make sure the doors line up when you chuck over the flysheet.
The inner tent is made from a highly breathable ripstop nylon with 10D micro mesh to increase breathability and ventilation and also to help create a nice light and airy interior. To keep you dry and comfortable a 40D ripstop nylon groundsheet is laminated with TPU to give a 10,000mm hydrostatic head and is integral to the inner tent rising up the side walls slightly to protect from wind and rain. The shape of inner is basically a square with a corner cut off and that creates a handy covered storage area under the extended flysheet.
Despite the name the WickiUp 4 is really a very roomy three man tent due to the sleeping restrictions caused by the central pole, however the tent can be pitched without the pole by suspending the flysheet and inner from an overhead tree or similar structure. But the best thing about this superb tent is just how nice it is to be inside it, the inner is so roomy and light compared to tents with a similar weight and performance.
