Rab start this jacket off by using their Matrix 2 layer bonded softshell fabric. This provides reliable water and wind resistance in a variety of conditions. Unlike some standard softshells, a stretch nylon face with a polyester grid fleece back is used. The nylon provides strength and increases the lifespan of the jacket, while the grid fleece back creates a more comfortable and warmer experience.
For further ease of use and weather protection, the hood is fully adjustable and features a wired peak.
A YKK Vislon front zip with an internal storm flap is durable and reliable, while two zipped hand pockets and a zipped chest pocket provide enough storage for the small essentials not being carried in a pack.
The Salvo jacket can be worn as a lighweight outer over a good base layer for more active persuits or just as a lightweight everyday jacket. Thanks to its great breathability, it performs equally as well as a light mid layer under a shell when the weather turns really nasty. The built in stretch makes it extremely comfortable to wear and offers unrestricted movement for activies such as climbing, mountaineering or trekking or nordic walking.
The cut of this jacket is what Rab simply class as 'regular', meaning it has a relaxed fit, enough room to layer up underneath and will fit a wider variety of people without sacrificing on the fit.
Combine brilliant performance with some useful features such as Rab's excellent hood design and neat detailing like the contrasting colours on the zips and flat lock seams and you get a competent and great looking versatile mountain softshell.
