What are the G-Summit Mountaineering Boots?
They are ultralight and versatile technical mountaineering boots ideal for ice climbing, big wall ascents, technical winter expeditions and prolonged low-temperature exposure. They’re specially designed to tackle both high-altitude summit pushes and technical mountaineering lower down the mountain. These fantastic boots weigh in at just 850g at their heaviest construction and 830g at their lightest, which is significantly lighter than their competitors.
What are they made of?
Gaiter: The gaiter of these boots, which is the first layer you see when looking at them (the outer layer, if you will), is made with thermo-taped, abrasion, and puncture-resistant PU. Thermo taping helps protect the boots from water ingress and heat loss. The material is highly durable and elasticated, making them easier to fasten and flexible enough for comfort during steep ascents. A water-repellent internal gusset helps prevent water from soaking through, keeping you dry in snowy conditions.
Inner shell: The next layer is the inner CORE-WRAP™ shell, which uses an overlap construction with insulating fabric to improve heat retention, with structural reinforcement that provides maximum support. The shell is lightweight and doesn't add excessive bulk around the leg, allowing you to move freely when needed.
Insoles: A 5mm removable thermal insole and Carbon Z-Therm™ mounting insole provides underfoot warmth and comfort without adding weight.
Sole: A Vibram Ice-Tech sole with aggressive lugs is divided into two parts to maximise performance during climbing and walking, whilst La Sportiva's brilliant Impact Brake System (IBS) provides grip and security on all terrain. IBS is a unique technology in outsole design where the lugs of the soles are oriented in opposing slanted directions. This opposition increases braking power and decreases impact forces by an average of 20%. Both parts of the sole can be resoled, ensuring these boots will literally last you a lifetime, earning some extra eco-friendly credentials too by reducing their environmental impact.
What are their features?
The main feature of the G-Summit boots is their removable thermal liner that provides versatile use for a wide range of mountain adventures.
The boot is ideal to be used without the liner for highly technical mountaineering activities where lightness and precision are the main focus, such as ice climbing and glacier activities at medium altitudes. Instead, the thermal insole can be used to improve the boot's thermal performance.
By inserting the dedicated thermal liner inside the boot, the G-Summit will be highly insulating and perfect for the most extreme weather conditions and exceptionally light for a boot dedicated to expeditions at high altitudes and in extreme environments. However, to ensure the boots fit correctly, the Thermal Insole will need to be swapped out for the liner.
The boots feature a wide opening and overlapped constructed shell, making them super easy to put on and take off.
A BOA® Fit System makes it much quicker to adjust the fit with the lacing fastener instead of faffing about with laces and cords. The adjuster is positioned outside the gaiter and designed to be opened and closed when wearing gloves in cold conditions. So, no matter how many layers you wear, you can adjust them quickly anytime, anywhere.
The G-Summit Boots are designed with optimal suitability to fit various foot shapes, making them versatile enough for broad and voluminous feet or for wearing super chunky socks!
They are also compatible with both step-in and automatic crampons, to suit your personal preference and activity.
Finally, an interesting little feature of these boots is they're not only super techy, but vegan friendly too!
