What is the Ascendor Summit Hood?
It's a warm, comfortable fleece hoody that uses body-mapped fabrics for high performance in cold, windy and exposed environments. Although its feature set is optimised for winter climbing, it works equally well for most outdoor adventures.
What is it made from?
The Ascendor Summit Hood uses body-mapped fabrics to protect key areas from the elements, helping to regulate your body temperature whilst keeping the overall bulk down for lasting comfort when climbing.
The main body of the fleece is constructed from Thermic™ G gridded fleece. Thermic™ fabrics are specially engineered to be lightweight, warm, fast drying and durable. By balancing durability, warmth and fast-drying properties, the material can provide the ultimate performance and adapt to various activities and conditions.
20D Pertex® Quantum Air overlays the torso, ears and chin provide added wind resistance and overall durability to the fleece. This material provides a fine balance between wind resistance and breathability, designed for intense, fast-paced mountain missions. It's treated with a lightweight DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in. However, please note that this doesn't make it fully waterproof.
The brushed-back polyester knit lining creates a ridiculously soft finish inside that feels fabulous next to the skin – you really won't want to take it off!
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a snug-fitting hood with elasticated binding is designed to sit comfortably underneath a climbing helmet.
Pertex® Quantum Air overlays to the ears and chin protect from harsh winds, improving comfort on long days spent on exposed mountain routes.
This hoodie has a simple front zip fastening, with a wind-resistant zip guard that helps prevent it from catching or snagging on your baselayer whilst stopping strong winds from penetrating through the zip.
A single chest pocket provides secure storage for your phone, lip balm and energy gels.
Flatlock seams run throughout the entire construction, which feels slim and soft against the skin, improving overall comfort so you can wear this on long, multi-day ascents without chafing.
There are also lightweight integrated thumb loops built into the sleeves' ends, which help keep the sleeves in place, sitting slightly over the hands for maximum protection.
How does it fit?
The Ascendor Summit Hood is created in Rab's slim fit, designed to be close fitting for maximum performance when moving dynamically. This close-to-body fit has enough room to fit a baselayer underneath comfortably but not enough room for thicker midlayers.
It's a fantastic piece to put under a waterproof shell jacket – when you need to open the vents in your jacket, the Ascendor Summit will help to stop the wind chill, allowing you to cool down gradually.
