What is the Expedition Pack Down Hoodie?
The Pack Down is a high-performance insulated down jacket with environmental credentials to match. It's perfect as either a super warm midlayer in freezing conditions or as an outer layer when things are a bit tamer.
What is it made of?
The main bulk of the jacket is insulated with high-quality, ethically sourced 700 fill-power goose down. Down is still to this day one of the most packable, lightweight and warm insulation types available, making it brilliant for cold, dry conditions. Down's achilles elbow is that it doesn't perform well when wet or compressed — to combat this, Fjallraven have used synthetic insulation in the shoulders; an area typically compressed by rucksack straps.
Both the inner and outer fabrics of the Pack Down are fully recycled, while the outer features a fluorocarbon-free treatment to repel light rain. This does not make the jacket waterproof, so still aim to carry a shell.
What are its features?
You get an adjustable, insulated hood for extra warmth and protection, two zipped hand pockets and one inner zipped security pocket for your phone, gloves or snacks, and elasticated cuffs to seal in warmth. One of the hand pockets even doubles as a stuffsack when not in use. The top of the zip has a soft fleecy lining to provide additional comfort next to skin in cold conditions. Just to finish the jacket off, there's a nice paragraph stitched into the inner fabric giving you a little extra information on the jacket and its origins.
