What is the Expedition Mid Winter Jacket?
It's an impressively warm, cosy and functional synthetically insulated jacket designed to offer the look, feel and performance of a down jacket without the faff. Ideal for various outdoor and everyday activities in cold climates, it's a great vegan-friendly, environmentally responsible alternative to a down jacket that's made to last.
What is it made from?
Insulation: For warmth, Fjallraven has used their own synthetic insulation called Supreme Microloft. Supreme Microloft is made from 100% recycled polyamide and has a down-like feel and performance. It has excellent thermal properties, even in wet conditions, making it a great choice for exploring in unpredictable weather. The insulation works like down, using a combination of thin and slightly thicker microfibers in a free-fibre construction to mimic down and effectively trap warm air inside the jacket. Supreme Microloft is easy to clean and retains its loft and insulating properties even after long-term use.
Fabrics: The jacket's outer is made from 100% recycled polyamide (nylon), which is exceptionally robust and can withstand a beating from rock and abrasion, making it perfect for venturing across rugged terrain. Its durability ensures that you'll be able to wear this jacket again and again without it looking worn and tired or losing its functionality along the way, helping the jacket still look great after years of use. Being made from recycled materials reduces the use of non-renewable resources, preventing older materials from going to waste whilst still retaining the same performance as virgin nylon.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a cosy insulated hood with an adjustable drawcord allows you to create a snug fit around the head for maximum protection from the elements. The inner collar is lined with a soft, brushed tricot lining to wick any moisture away from the skin, keeping you feeling fresh all day.
The jacket features an off-set baffle construction, which protects each baffle seam with warm and cosy insulation on the reverse side, stopping warm air from escaping the jacket and cold winds penetrating through. This clever construction enhances the jacket's thermal efficiency and reduces heat loss through exposed stitch lines.
A two-way front zipper fastens the jacket, you can unzip the jacket from the bottom for extra ventilation and freedom of movement through the hips on steep inclines or if you need to access a climbing harness underneath.
For storage, you'll find two zippered hand pockets, an inside zippered chest pocket and a stash pocket that provides plenty of space to store all your everyday winter essentials such as keys, mobile phone, gloves and a beanie.
Quality-of-life features such as a dipped hem and extended elasticated cuffs provide added coverage across the back and arms for enhanced comfort and cold weather protection when moving around, bending down and stretching.
Finally, an included stuff sack allows you to easily store the jacket in your pack when not in use. In true Fjallraven style, this stuff sack is thoughtfully made from the same durable fabric as the jacket's outer, allowing it to double as extra material for future repairs. Both drawcords used in the Mid Winter are also designed to be easily accessible and repairable, so you can enjoy your favourite jacket for many years to come.
How does it fit?
This cosy jacket uses Fjallraven's new body standard, which aims to fit its customers' posture, proportions, size, and shape more accurately. It features a regular fit that offers room for layering thicker mid-layers underneath while still sitting close enough to the body to retain heat for maximum thermal efficiency.
