What is the Nuuk Parka?
Good question! The Nuuk is a waterproof, windproof and insulated parka jacket that is versatile enough for both mid-winter mountain use or casual, everyday wear a little closer to home. It's features make it ideal for the unpredictable British winter, with a big protective hood, Hydratic® membrane and a whopping total of eight pockets to choose from.
What is it made of?
Materials have been given a sustainable update for the Nuuk Parka. It uses a recycled polyamide with a Hydratic® membrane for waterproof protection. The lining is made of polyester, alongside the 100% polyester Supreme Microloft insulation that is sandwiched in between for warmth.
Though recycled, the polyamide outer is still durable and reliable as ever. It can withstand bumps and scrapes from general use or rugged terrain to last you years to come. The polyester lining is lightweight, breathable, and again, durable enough to stand regular use.
As for the insulation, Supreme Microloft is Fjallraven's own synthetic insulation, specially developed to offer warmth, even in damp conditions.
Supreme Microloft mimics down clusters by trapping warm air to retain heat and keep you warm for longer. However, unlike down, it can stay warm once moist, making it much more effective and reliable in damp conditions. Overall, this insulation is also more durable than down and much easier to clean and maintain, though slightly less packable.
What are the features?
A total of eight pockets are included on the Nuuk Parka! There are two large zipped chest pockets, two smaller chest pockets with press button closures, two top-loading bellows pockets and two fleeced lined handwarmer pockets.
Inside is equipped with a drawcord adjustment for the hem, two large stretch mesh storage pockets and two inside zipped pockets, perfect for valuables like a wallet or car keys. Increasing the versatility even further is a detachable two-way adjustable storm hood with a removable synthetic faux edging. To top it off, the wired, brimmed hood and collar are both fleece lined and a built-in windshield is included to keep the cold off your neck and trap as much heat as possible.
How does it fit?
It's big, long and cosy, as a parka should be! It'll easily go over additional layers and provides tonnes of warmth down to your thighs.
