What is the Innominata ML Hybrid Jacket?
The Innominata ML Hybrid Jacket is a unique insulative midlayer designed for cold climates. It's versatile enough to be worn as a warm midlayer during winter or even a lighter outer layer during the autumn and spring, and suited to a variety of casual and outdoor-oriented activities, whether hiking, scrambling or mountaineering in diverse terrain.
What is it made of?
Constructed with a mixture of lightweight polyester materials including Polartec® Thermal Pro® fleece and Pertex® Quantum, this jacket performs without the weight and bulk of other standard, conventional materials.
Polartec® Thermal Pro® is used on the back and the arms. It's made with recycled polyester, which is fast drying and has a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Designed as a durable performance fleece fabric, it's pill-resistant and can retain its shape easily, meaning it'll last for years without looking shabby after frequent use and washes. Using lighter fleece in these areas gives you more breathability than having insulation all the way around. It creates a fantastic balance of temperature whilst reducing the bulk overall so you don't feel too restricted and weighed down by thick, heavy layers.
Pertex® Quantum cages the insulation on the torso. It has a tightly woven structure that makes it light and soft and is developed to ensure that insulation lofts fully for maximum performance and heat retention. It's highly packable, water resistant and windproof, helping to keep all that warmth trapped by the insulation within while providing effective weather resistance.
Mammut's very own Ajungilak® OTI™ insulation fills the torso to provide an even spread of warmth. Ajungilak® OTI™ is a synthetic insulation that is durable and lightweight.
Synthetic insulation can be beneficial for several reasons, depending on your activity. It's perfect for more rugged terrain and situations where the weather is wetter and less predictable. Why, you ask? Synthetic insulation is renowned for staying warm when wet, unlike down, which usually clumps up into a soggy mess and loses all its heat.
So if you're out in a downpour for more than a couple of hours and your shell jacket is starting to wet out, you'll still feel the warmth underneath, thanks to this lovely filling.
All materials are bluesign® approved, giving them some extra eco-friendly credentials by ensuring they are safe for workers, consumers and the environment, and treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). PFC-free treatments are much more sustainable than conventional treatments as they don't use per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment.
What are its features?
As you may have noticed, a lot of the techy stuff with this jacket comes in the materials. However, that doesn't mean it has no features at all.
It comes with a smooth-running zip fastening at the front with a flap behind to reinforce weather protection, helping to keep wind and rain from seeping through. At the top, there's a chin guard designed to prevent your skin or beard from catching in the fastening when the jacket is fully zipped up, as the collar sits a little higher for added warmth.
A chest pocket with a zip fastening is ideal for tucking away your mobile phone, GPS device or wallet, and zipped pockets at the sides provide space for other small essentials like snacks, energy gels, doggy bags, earbuds, and keys.
