What is the Rime IN Flex Hooded Jacket?
The Rime IN Flex Hooded Jacket is a robust, insulated jacket designed for cold weather and multi-activity adventures. It's filled with Mammut's very own Ajungilak® synthetic insulation and tough enough to withstand long days in challenging terrain, yet it's versatile enough to even be worn on cold, damp days for running errands a little closer to home.
What is it made of?
Polyamide face material backed with a woven downproof layer gives this jacket the strength to endure bumps and scrapes in rugged terrain and on jagged rock. It's treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) to add water resistance to the jacket (although this doesn't mean it's waterproof). It encourages light rain and snow to bead off the fabric instead of soaking in, without the use of nasty per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment. Though robust, this bluesign® approved material is highly breathable, which is then enhanced by its Pertex® Quantum Air lining.
Pertex® Quantum Air is extremely lightweight and highly permeable, allowing vapour to pass through to the outside to improve temperature regulation when working up a sweat. It feels extremely smooth against the skin and is still robust enough to endure heavy use without looking worn and shabby after a few months.
The Rime IN Flex Jacket is insulated with Mammut's very own Ajungilak® stretch synthetic insulation, which is warm, lightweight, fast-drying and flexible.
Synthetic insulation can be beneficial for several reasons, depending on your activity. It's perfect for damp environments where you may need extra protection and don't have a shell jacket to throw over the top. Why, you ask? Synthetic insulation is renowned for staying warm when wet, unlike down, which usually clumps up into a soggy mess and loses all heat retention, making it perfect for all weather. It's also more durable, so it won't get destroyed and lose its loft under the heavy weight of a pack.
To top it all off, the materials are bluesign® approved, giving them some extra eco-friendly credentials by ensuring they are safe for workers, consumers and the environment.
What are its features?
The helmet compatible hood has adjustment cords for easy adaptation around different head shapes and helmet sizes.
At the front of the jacket, a two-way zipper fastening gives you different options in wearing it - you can zip it fully for maximum warmth or unzip the top or bottom (usually depending on the weather) to ventilate if you're getting too hot.
For storage, two backpack and climbing harness-compatible pockets with zip fastenings are perfect for essentials you want to keep within reach, like snacks and energy gels. Alternatively, a zipped chest pocket gives you a safe place to store a GPS device or mobile phone where it won't get in your way.
Cuffs are elasticated to enhance flexibility at the joints and improve heat retention by pulling the material closer in. A hem drawstring makes a quick adjustment to cinch the bottom of the jacket so you don't spend too much time faffing to get it right.
For easy on-the-go storage, you can stow the jacket in the side pocket, which will pack up neatly and take up minimum room in your rucksack or kit bag. Alternatively, this jacket also comes with an additional stow bag that has two carabiner loops in case you want to hook it to a belt or outside your pack, giving you quick access if you suddenly get too cold after removing the jacket or stopping for a pitstop along your route.
Whilst manufacturing this product, Mammut has closely worked with FairWear, a non-profit organisation, to ensure safe and fair working conditions for factory workers and protect their rights, giving the Eigerjoch Advanced some extra brownie points for sustainability.
