What is the Respond XT Hoodie?
It's a durable, breathable and packable synthetic jacket that uses Primaloft Silver for reliable warmth and thermal performance in varied conditions. Designed for Scottish mountaineering and intense mountain activities in winter, the Respond XT is uncompromisingly lightweight, robust and versatile.
What is it made from?
Insulation - Montane has used dual-density Primaloft® Silver synthetic insulation. The core body of the jackets uses 133g of insulation for reliable warmth. The hood, Sleeves and side panels use 80g of insulation for minimal bulk when climbing and negotiating technical ascents.
Primaloft Silver is made from 100% recycled polyester and is developed using a proprietary process where plastic bottle chips are remade into high-performance fibres. Clever, right? It provides effective, sustainable performance without compromising the regular qualities of synthetic insulation.
Synthetic insulation performs much better in damp conditions than down because it absorbs less water, doesn't lose its loft and dries out much quicker if you get caught in a sudden downpour. So, if you're thinking of heading on a multi-day adventure somewhere it's likely to rain (e.g. Anywhere in the UK), a synthetic jacket might be a more sensible option.
Outer - Pertex® Quantum Eco 30D fabric surrounds the insulation; made from fully recycled nylon with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating. Pertex® Quantum fabrics are created from tightly woven fibres that are designed to trap still air, helping to warm the jacket's insulation and maintain its efficiency, whilst creating a light, protective barrier from the elements.
Lining - The inner fabric is a PEAQ 20D nylon lining that is 100% recycled, supremely comfortable next to the skin and is highly breathable.
The Respond XT Hoodie has excellent eco-credentials; both fabrics used are made from 100% recycled materials and are each treated with their own PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage rain and snow to bead off the material without the use of forever chemicals that cause damage to the environment. This DWR treatment makes the jacket highly water and wind resistant, but it doesn't make the jacket fully waterproof.
What are its features?
The Respond XT uses dual-density synthetic insulation for optimum thermal performance in wet and dry climates. The denser filling of the core body provides vital warmth in cold, wet conditions. Whilst the reduced filling to the sleeves, hood and side panels reduces overall bulk, providing a better range of movement for more technical ascents. It also makes layering with a hardshell jacket more comfortable.
A fully adjustable hood provides excellent protection from the elements, whilst a stiffened peak at the top, improves visibility in poor conditions by helping to keep rain, wind and snow out of your eyes.
Articulated sleeves offer better freedom of movement for the arms and shoulders, so you can reach higher on technical manoeuvres without fabric riding up and skin being exposed to the cold - a simple yet excellent feature for exposed trails in freezing conditions.
The jacket features an easy-to-use two-way YKK Vislon zip closure, which can be undone from the bottom up, allowing you to access a climbing harness underneath or get some extra ventilation around your midsection.
For storage, two zipped hand pockets provide space for storing trail snacks, guide books and maps. Two zipped chest pockets provide a safe space for storing more valuable items like a mobile phone and GPS device. On the inside of the jacket is an elasticated drop pocket, perfect for storing your gloves when not in use, giving you peace of mind that you won't lose them in the mountains.
The Respond XT is finished with velcro cuffs and a fully adjustable hem to cinch in excess fabric, keeping warm air in to reduce heat loss and keeping cold winds from blowing up the jacket on exposed routes.
