What is the Trango Jacket?
The Trango Jacket is a down-filled, insulative jacket designed for cold expeditions, mountaineering and climbing in remote locations and harsh conditions.
What is it made of?
Insulation: The Trango uses 237g (size 12) of 700 fill-power Pure Down insulation, which is super high quality and provides maximum heat retention for minimum weight. For reinforcement, M.E has also used a heat-reflective inner lining for further warmth with virtually no weight penalty - perfect for harsh minus temperatures and icy winds!
Concerned about animal welfare? No worries, so are we! These fluffy little feathers come from a Down Codex® audited source. Down Codex® stamps indicate that there was no unnecessary harm caused to birds when sourcing 100% of the down insulation and that it came from an ethical, traceable source.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
700 Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Fabrics: Surrounding all this down is a Drilite Loft 40D outer fabric. This fabric is completely windproof and highly water resistant, protecting both you and the insulation from moisture. However, please note that this does not make the jacket completely waterproof.
What are its features?
A typical down jacket would feature a single layer of baffles constructed with stitching — this is simple, lightweight and easy to manufacture, but the downfall is that it allows heat to escape through the seams. Mountain Equipment has combated this issue using two offset layers of baffles throughout the jacket, almost like double-glazed windows. Being offset means the second layer of baffles is placed over the seams, covering the stitching and preventing that valuable heat from escaping.
A Mountain HC (Helmet Compatible) Hood provides extra protection and versatility in the mountains. You can wear it over a helmet, making it ideal for multi-activity adventures like ski touring, mountaineering and climbing. When you're not wearing a helmet, you can cinch in any excess volume using the adjusters to keep it in place.
The two-way centre zip is handy when wearing a climbing harness as it allows access around the bottom of the jacket without having to unfasten the top half.
Two zipped hand warmer pockets are perfect for warming your digits or storing small essentials like trail snacks and energy gels, and a Napoleon chest pocket gives you easy access to gloves, mitts or a GPS. Two inner mesh pockets are also ideal for keeping chunky, insulated mitts or sunglasses, as they're well protected from rugged terrain and harsh weather yet easy to access, even with one hand. You'll also find a zipped security pocket in the lining which works well for keeping small valuables safe, such as keys or a wallet.
Adjustable cuffs allow you to adapt the fit around accessories like a smartwatch or gloves, while you can use the dual tether hem drawcords to cinch in the material at the bottom and keep the heat in.
