What is the Xenair Alpine Jacket?
Insulation for active mountain use - The Xenair Alpine Jacket is built for varied mountain conditions. The combination of clever synthetic insulation and breathable fabrics mean that the Xenair it excels in start stop activities, negating the need to change layers. It’s the ideal piece for fast packing, scrambling and hiking – and thanks to the clean lines and matt finish, it also looks great in the pub afterwards too!
What is it made of?
Insulation: The insulation in the Xenair combines 2 weights of the exceptionally clever PrimaLoft Gold Active+ synthetic insulation which contains 55% post-consumer recycled material. Normally the densely woven outer material on jackets or pants has reliably protected the insulation but has also limited its breathability and moisture management. Primaloft Gold Active+, however, uses a special fibre structure, allowing it to be combined with highly breathable linings and outer fabrics for better moisture management and comfort, without compromising on thermal performance.
The Xenair Alpine Jacket uses body mapped insulation and two different weights of insulation to maintain warmth whilst allowing for optimal breathability – giving you the ideal piece for moving fast in the mountains.
Fabrics: The outer fabric in the Xenair Alpine is a lightweight, breathable 20D Pertex Quantum Air fabric that has exceptionally breathability and weather resistance; meaning you won’t have to chop and change layers when you start to work harder. The lining on the inside is a 20D recycled Atmos ripstop which helps wick moisture away from your body and is exceptionally soft next to skin.
What are the features?
Starting at the top, the Xenair features a helmet compatible hood with a semi-elasticated opening and a single lightweight rear hood adjustment. The 2-way YKK Vislon has a chin guard and an insulated zip baffle behind the zip to help stop the heat from leaving the jacket. Moving down the YKK concealed zipped hand pockets are the ideal place to stash your phone, compass and keys - one even doubles as a stuff sack so you can pop it in your pack when you don’t need it. For added storage you also get a concealed zip pocket in the chest.
How does it fit?
The Xenair uses Rab’s Regular fit which means that the Xenair is tailer to sit close to your body so you don’t have lots of excess fabric flapping around in bad weather, but also has enough room underneath it so you can pop a couple of layers on when it gets extra chilly.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Xenair can be worn as a stand alone jacket on those cold, dry days but will also squeeze underneath a shell jacket when it starts to rain.
