What is the Women's Cubit Down Jacket?
The Cubit Stretch Down jacket will soon become your favourite go-to jacket for commuting, hiking, dog walking and everything in between. This warm, light and packable down hoody combines Pertex 3DWeave pre-woven baffle technology with recycled hydrophobic down and stretch fabric to give you a great all-round jacket.
What is it made of?
Insulation: The cubit is stuffed with 149g of 700FP recycled P.U.R.E Certified Down. As well as providing superb insulation all that high quality down has been treated to a special Hydrophobic process that was developed by Rab and Nikwax, basically each and every cluster of down is treated with special fluorocarbon free Nikwax product to make them perform better in damp conditions. Although the Cubit is not completely waterproof the Hydrophobic down filling dries much faster, absorbs less water and retains loft far better than untreated down.
Fabric: The outer Pertex Quantum fabric itself is breathable and weather resistant and has a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish, perfect for outdoor activities in cold winter weather.
Stitching: Whilst we’re looking at the fabrics, lets take a closer look at the stitching. The 3D Weave Technology actually isn't stitched at all; instead, the offset baffles are laminated together which reduces the weight, increases weather resistance and makes the Cubit exceptionally packable.
What are the features?
Starting from the top, you get a snug fitting down-filled hood with stretch binding to keep to worst of the cold off your head. Moving down the YKK Vislon front zip has a fleece lined chin guard at the top of it for added comfort. The 2 YKK zipped hand pockets are the ideal place to stash keys and your phone. To further seal out the elements and protect your lower back there’s a drawcord in the hem.
How does it fit?
The Cubit uses Rabs Women's specific ‘Slim Fit’ which sits a bit snugger to your body than Rab’s ‘Regular’ fit. You will still be able to squeeze a couple of layers underneath it on those exceptionally chilly days, but’s predominantly designed to be worn over baselayers and lightweight fleeces.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Cubit can be worn as a stand alone jacket on those cold, dry days but will also squeeze underneath a shell jacket when it starts to rain.
Disclaimer: Going forward, Rab has stopped providing stuff sacks for most of their insulated jackets as a responsible step toward eliminating fabric waste. This helps reduce the creation of unnecessary fabric, cord, and trim from unused stuff sacks while also saving the potential emissions used to manufacture them. Instead, they are available to purchase separately and are now made from offcut materials and end-of-roll fabrics for an even lower environmental impact.
