What is the Cateran Jacket?
The Cateran Jacket is a warm insulated jacket designed to protect you during cold, damp British Winters. Durable and water-resistant, it has the classic look and feel of a down jacket but with all the benefits of synthetic insulation. It's great for weekends spent hill walking in the Lake District and in the Brecon Beacons when unpredictable weather is guaranteed.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Cateran Jacket is filled with 380g ThermoSphere™ blown insulation made from 100% polyester. This synthetic insulation uses stitched-through baffles to hold the filling in place, allowing it to loft fully and maximise heat retention. It is designed to look and feel like down insulation but features all the benefits of synthetic. ThermoSphere™ insulation has an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio that will keep you well-protected even when the insulation is damp. Unlike traditional down-filled jackets, synthetic insulation is easier to care for and retains up to 90% of its thermal performance when wet.
Outer: Surrounding the insulation is Sprayway's TecSHELL™ Loft fabric, which is a 40D polyamide ripstop fabric that is lightweight, durable and highly water resistant. Created to be easily packable and tough to withstand cold, damp climates, TecSHELL™ Loft offers a protective barrier to shield you from the elements.
This face fabric is treated with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to enhance the material's water-resistant properties without the use of any harmful forever chemicals. Although this makes the jacket highly water resistant, please note that this does not make it fully waterproof.
What are its features?
A fully adjustable hood protects you from the elements, whilst a wired peak helps keep rain and snow out of your face by providing a little extra coverage to the forehead. The hood features an external hanging loop, allowing you to quickly hang the jacket up when not in use.
The Cateran Jacket features a central zip closure with a reversed zip and insulated placket to help retain heat and stop the wind from entering through the zip.
For storage, there are two zipped hand pockets ideal for storing your trail snacks and keeping your hands warm on frosty mornings. Inside the jacket, a large internal mesh stash pocket offers space to hold your gloves and beanie when not in use. There is also a secure zipped inner pocket that is great for storing more valuable items, such as a mobile phone or GPS device, without worrying about losing them out on the hill.
Velcro adjustable cuffs and a drawcord hem allow you to cinch in the jacket, sealing out the elements and keeping warm air inside.
