What is the Galty Jacket?
The Galty Jacket is a lightweight insulating jacket that combines recycled 650FP duck down and recycled synthetic insulation for the optimum balance of thermal efficiency, wet weather practicality and minimum pack size. Created from recycled materials with recycled insulation, it's an excellent choice for more eco-conscious adventurers.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Galty uses a combination of 107g of 650 fill power recycled 80/20 water-resistant (hydrophobic) duck down and 80g of Ecoloft high loft recycled synthetic down.
Duck down is used on the sleeves and central core of the jacket to ensure the highest levels of warmth compared to the weight and pack size. Not only is down one of the lightest forms of insulation available but one of the most compressible too.
Sprayway’s Ecoloft high loft recycled synthetic insulation is used for the side panels, shoulders and head because it performs much better in wet conditions, allowing the jacket to retain its thermal performance when wet.
Synthetic insulation maintains up to 90% of its efficiency when wet, whilst duck down's ability to loft and trap heat is reduced. This zonal construction creates a balance between warmth, weight, pack size and thermal efficiency in damp conditions.

Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 650 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 650 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Hydrophobic Down - Hydrophobic Down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up in the jacket. Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Fabrics: Surrounding the fantastic insulation is Sprayway's TecSHELL™ Loft fabric, which is a lightweight 20D recycled polyamide fabric that is durable and highly water resistant. Created to be easily packable and tough to withstand cold, damp climates, TecSHELL™ Loft offers a protective barrier to shield you from the elements.
This face fabric is treated with a PVC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to enhance the material's water-resistant properties without the use of any harmful forever chemicals. Although this makes the jacket highly water resistant, please note that this does not make it fully waterproof.
Lining the jacket is a 100% recycled polyamide fabric that is lightweight and offers lasting next-to-skin comfort.
What are its features?
A large proportion of the Galty's features are in the technical fabric and insulation details mentioned above, so I won't repeat myself.
It does feature a fully adjustable grown-on hood for protection from the elements. A wired peak to the top of the hood helps keep the rain away from your face by providing a little extra coverage to the forehead.
A central front two-way zip provides plenty of ventilation options and allows you to access a climbing harness easily. The zip has an insulated placket to aid the jacket's heat retention and stop cold winds from entering the jacket via the zip.
For storage, there are two zipped hand pockets, partially lined with tricot fabric, for a soft and cosy feel whilst you warm your hands. An internal stash pocket offers a safe haven for your gloves or beanie when not in use.
Elastane bound cuffs help to trap warm air inside the jacket, whilst an adjustable drawcord hem allows you to cinch in excess material, sealing out the elements.
Finally, the left-hand pocket doubles as a stuff sack allowing you to easily pack down and store in your backpack ready to pop on when you pitstop for lunch or the temperatures drop.
