What is the Honcho Poncho Down?
Therm-A-Rest's Down Honcho Poncho provides high-performance protection and luxurious comfort for camping trips, van life, relaxing at home or even when you're heading out to watch the footie. It's made with premium materials (some recycled) and packs down into its own pocket, meaning you can take it virtually anywhere!
What is it made of?
The outer material is made with GRS-certified 100% recycled nylon, which is lightweight yet incredibly durable. The material is treated with durable water repellent, encouraging water to bead off instead of soaking in. However, please note that this won't make it fully waterproof.
The poncho is filled with 650-fill power, RDS-certified Nikwax Hydrophobic Down™ - the same down filling you'll get in a Therm-A-Rest sleeping bag. So yes, this is basically a sleeping bag you can walk around in. Can you think of anything better? I can't.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/ fluff up. A rating of 650 fill power means that 1oz of this down, fills 650 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker than untreated down, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up when you're catching z's in this cosy, wearable blanket.
What are its features?
A little different to the standard Honcho Poncho, this accessory has an anorak-style half-zip with a fitted, three-panel hood that sits nicely to keep your head sheltered. The snap-fastening layout minimises excess fabric you'd get with a traditional poncho, meaning it's more practical to wear when completing your campsite chores or grabbing a pint at half-time.
The front pocket gives you space to store essentials like a mobile phone, beanie hat or portable chargers, which doubles up as a stuffsack. When you want to pack the poncho away, randomly stuff it into the pocket (folding may cause creases to develop in the insulation, which would therefore create cold gaps for future use) and pop it back into your kit bag or backpack.
