What is the Windjammer XPD Hoodie?
The Windjammer XPD Hoodie is the ultimate softshell jacket for windy adventures on the mountain. It excels in fast-paced mountain environments and uses Gore-Tex Windstopper® for complete windproof protection while retaining freedom of movement for negotiating challenging terrain.
What is it made from?
The Windjammer XPD is mainly constructed from a 70D woven blend of Nylon and elastane. This durable face fabric helps the jacket to withstand abrasion from rugged mountainsides, whilst the elastane provides a two-way stretch to the fabric to help increase your range of movement.
This 70D face fabric has been treated with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating for lightweight protection from the elements, allowing this jacket to shed light rain and snow. This water-resistant treatment is free from harmful forever chemicals that cause damage to our wonderful planet.
The Windjammer XPD uses Gore-Tex's Windstopper® membrane for complete protection against wind, gales and gusts, both on and off the mountain. This windproof membrane is also highly breathable, helping to keep your body temperature balanced by allowing sweat to move to the outer of the fabric instead of building up next to the skin.
Fabric overlays to the outer chest pockets are made from a two-way stretch performance fabric called Vector lite, which is composed of woven Nylon and Elastane.
What are its features?
The hood is helmet compatible and fully adjustable, allowing you to adapt the fit around your helmet for maximum protection from the elements. A reinforced peak at the top of the hood helps keep wet weather away from the face by providing extra coverage above. The hood can also be rolled away when not in use, which is ideal for exposed mountain adventures.
Articulated sleeves and two-way stretch in the main fabric offer better freedom of movement for the arms and shoulders, allowing you to reach higher on technical manoeuvres without fabric riding up and skin being exposed to the cold.
The Windjammer XPD uses durable YKK reverse coil zips throughout the jacket. At the front is a two-way zip that can be undone from the bottom up, allowing you to access a climbing harness underneath easily.
For storage, two external reinforced chest pockets offer a safe place for storing energy gels, snacks and your phone. Whilst two large lower hand pockets offer space to store maps, guide books, GPS device and additional gloves.
The Windjammer XPD is finished with adjustable cuffs for an optimised fit when wearing bulky gloves and a drawcord adjuster to the bottom of the jacket, which allows you to cinch in the hem and prevent any gusts from blowing up into the jacket.
How does it fit into the layering system?
The Windjammer XPD is a warm, windproof softshell jacket primarily used as an outer layer in dryer conditions. For wet weather adventures, we suggest layering this jacket under a waterproof hard shell jacket for maximum protection against the elements.
