What is the VR Summit Jacket?
It's a refreshed version of Rab's popular Vapour-Rise softshell jacket, the warmest, most breathable and most comfortable one yet!
Using a combination of Pertex® Quantum Air and super soft Vapour-Rise™ lining, the VR Summit Jacket offers exceptional performance for high-output mountain activities in cold climates.
Essentially, the Summit is the perfect softshell jacket for activities when you need the highest level of breathability, with warmth and weather protection to keep you comfortable in changeable conditions.
What is it made from?
The outer of the jacket is constructed from 20D Pertex® Quantum Air. Pertex® Quantum Air is designed for intense, fast-paced mountain missions. It balances wind resistance and breathability to provide the ultimate performance for high-output activities. It's treated with a lightweight DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in; however, please note that this doesn't make it fully waterproof.
The jacket is lined with Rab's Vapour-Rise™ lining for reliable warmth, excellent moisture management and wind resistance. The lining is super soft on the inside and protective on the outside. It's highly effective at regulating your body temperature and excels in extreme environments and cold temperatures, allowing you to push your limits without overheating.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a helmet-compatible hood with a stiffened peak protects the face from light rain, snow and harsh winds. This hood can be adjusted to tailor protection from the elements.
There is a lightweight YKK two-way zip closure to the front of the jacket, with a fleece-lined chin guard to stop it from catching on your face or causing any discomfort whilst fully zipped. The main zipper is easy to use with a climbing harness and provides quick ventilation if you're working up a sweat on a steep climb without having to unzip the jacket entirely.
The super soft Vapour-Rise™ lining creates a snuggly and warm feeling to the jacket whilst providing excellent protection from the elements and moisture management, as previously mentioned above.
A single angled chest pocket allows you to keep a lip balm and energy gel close to hand, whilst two strategically placed hand pockets provide space for storing bulkier items such as trail snacks, a mobile phone and a GPS device. They sit conveniently away from a climbing harness and rucksack hip belt, allowing them to be easily accessed on the go, whatever the adventure.
Adjustable cuffs and hem allow you to trap air and keep cold drafts out of the jacket. If you're starting to get a little warm, the bottom hem can easily be adjusted with one hand to increase the ventilation.
How does it fit?
Featuring Rab's regular fit, the VR Summit Jacket sits close enough to perform well as an insulating layer but is roomy enough to allow for an extra layer or two underneath.
Where does it fit into the layering system?
The VR Summit Jacket can be worn as an insulating outer layer on dry days when there isn't much rain forecast. Or it can be comfortably layered underneath a waterproof shell jacket in wet conditions.
