What is the Ace Hooded Jacket?
It’s an incredibly versatile softshell jacket designed to suit a range of activities and general demands from the great outdoors. The Ace Hooded Jacket is durable and comfortable enough to wear mountaineering, yet performs fantastically for more general days on the hill, whether hiking, trekking or scrambling.
What is it made of?
A mixture of light and heavyweight bluesign® approved softshell gives the Ace the durability and resistance it needs to survive in rugged terrain.
The main fabric is Durable 2FS heavy duty double weave, made of 49% recycled polyamide, 43% polyester and 8% elastane, making it thicker and more robust than its lightweight counterpart and able to take a beating from rock and rough surfaces. The lighter Versatile 2FS softshell material is made of a blend of 65% recycled polyamide, 24% polyester and 11% elastane which gives it a subtle stretch to enhance freedom of movement without affecting the weight and performance.
The two materials are placed strategically – Durable 2FS sits over the shoulders and front chest, where backpacks sit, and on the outer sleeves that are more exposed to the elements and abrasion.
Each material is treated with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). DWR encourages rain and snow to bead off the fabric, although won’t make it fully waterproof. So, if the weather is posing more of a challenge, it’ll be a good idea to pack a shell jacket to chuck over the top just in case. Generally, PFC-free treatments are much more eco-friendly compared to conventional treatments, as they don’t use per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment.
What are its features?
Instead of being stitched like many regular jackets are, the Ace Hooded Jacket is constructed using a special gluing technique to reduce weight and enhance flexibility. Gluing the seams together also poses a weather resistant benefit, as it makes rain and water less likely to seep through the seams.
This jacket has a fully adjustable hood, allowing you to optimize the fit over your layering system and wooly hats. It’s shaped to fit more naturally around the head and provide better freedom of movement, without effecting peripheral vision dramatically for steep ascents and technical climbs.
It also has plenty of storage, with two zippered hand pockets for smaller belongings like energy gels, snacks, keys, gloves or doggy bags, alongside two larger chest pockets that are ideal for mobile phones, GPS devices or a wallet.
