What is the Norrona Men's Falketind Gore-Tex Hooded Jacket?
Say Hi to the Norrona Men's Falketind Gore-Tex Hooded Jacket, a protective shell for all-year mountaineering and outdoor activities. Whether trekking, skiing, or exploring the great outdoors, this jacket ensures you stay dry and comfortable.
What is it made of?
The Falketind Gore-Tex Hooded Jacket is made of a three-layer 40D ePE Gore-Tex with a recycled nylon face and backer. Gore-Tex features great waterproofness (28,000mm), breathability (RET less than 13), and total windproofness.
The 28,000 mm waterproof rating means the fabric can withstand a water column of up to 28,000 millimetres before water penetrates. This high level of waterproofing ensures that the jacket can endure heavy rain and harsh wet conditions, keeping you dry and comfortable during intense outdoor activities and adventures.
RET, or Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer, measures how well a fabric allows moisture to escape. A RET value of less than 13 means the fabric has good breathability, essential for comfort during physical activities.
The recycled nylon face and backer, made from repurposed waste like old fishing nets and fabric scraps, significantly reduce environmental impact by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and minimising landfill waste. Despite being recycled, the nylon maintains its durability and comfort, ensuring the jacket is resistant to wear and tear, breathable, and soft against the skin.
Taped seams are critical in high-performance outerwear, preventing water from penetrating the garment's stitching holes. This jacket has a thin Gore-Tex 13mm tape that ensures the seams are fully waterproof while maintaining the garment's flexibility. This structure enhances overall comfort and mobility without compromising on protection from the elements.
Additionally, the materials used in this jacket are Oeko-Tex and Blue-sign certified. While both certifications aim to make textile products safer and lessen bad environmental impact, Oeko-Tex is primarily concerned with the safety of the final product for consumers, ensuring it is free from harmful substances. Bluesign, on the other hand, focuses on the entire production process, aiming to eliminate harmful chemicals and promote more sustainable and safe manufacturing practices.
What are its features?
The Norrona Falketind Jacket is loaded with great features that enhance your outdoor experience.
Long underarm vents with two-way zippers provide excellent ventilation, perfect for high-intensity activities. These zippers allow you to adjust airflow, preventing overheating during strenuous climbs or treks.
Articulated sleeves and a technical fit with a Y-cut offer great freedom of movement. Whether you're reaching for a handhold while climbing or swinging your arms while hiking, this jacket moves with you.
The jacket also has a storm hood that accommodates a climbing helmet, providing great coverage and protection from the elements during outdoor pursuits. This hood's one-hand adjustment feature allows quick tightening or loosening with just one hand, eliminating the need to fumble with multiple cords or closures.
Asymmetric cuffs with Velcro adjustments and an asymmetric longer back cut provide extra coverage and protection from the elements. These design elements keep out drafts and precipitation, helping you to stay warm and dry.
Mid-mounted pockets with YKK water-resistant zippers offer secure storage for your essentials. They can hold gloves, a hat, or other small gear you might need to access quickly while on the go. The placement of these pockets makes them accessible even when wearing a harness or backpack.
The jacket also features soft brushed chin protection for enhanced comfort. This detail prevents chafing and irritation against the skin, ensuring a snug and pleasant fit around the chin and neck area.
Thanks to an exterior hang loop, you can hang the jacket when not in use, whether at the base of a climb or back at camp, keeping it easily accessible for when the adventure calls again.
For added safety and visibility, the jacket comes with reflective graphics. These graphics work great in low-light conditions, ensuring you stay seen during various outdoor activities.
