What is the Norrona Men's Tamok Dri1 Anorak Jacket?
The Norrona Men's Tamok dri1 is a lightweight, waterproof anorak designed for freeriding and general ski/snowboard activities. It's versatile enough for on and off-slope adventures, trekking, and mountaineering, making it an essential travel companion for outdoor enthusiasts.
What is it made of?
The main fabric, known as dri1, is made from 100% recycled nylon. This material is constructed by laminating the face fabric to a printed inner membrane. It eliminates the need for an additional liner, resulting in a soft, lightweight, and protective fabric that provides great comfort and performance.
The fabric features a 2.5-layer construction that incorporates a waterproof and breathable Polyurethane (PU) hydrophilic membrane. This membrane absorbs moisture and moves it away from your body, ensuring you stay drier and more comfortable.
The dri1 material boasts a high level of waterproofness, with a minimum rating of 20,000 mm, meaning it can withstand heavy rain and snow without letting water in. It also has a breathability rating of at least 20,000 g MVTR, which ensures moisture vapour from sweat can escape, keeping you drier from the inside out.
The fabric is treated with a PFC-free water-repellent finish, a significant environmental improvement over traditional water-repellent treatment. Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) are synthetic chemicals commonly used in water-repellent coatings due to their effectiveness. However, PFCs are known to be persistent in the environment, meaning they do not break down naturally and can accumulate over time, potentially harming wildlife and ecosystems.
By using a PFC-free water-repellent finish, Norrona has chosen a better alternative that maintains high performance without the ecological drawbacks associated with PFCs.
The laminates used in the dri1 material are very lightweight, ranging from 50 to 120 grams per square meter, and made with 15-20 denier fibres. It makes the fabric light and easy to move in without compromising durability. The ripstop surface structure increases tear strength, ensuring the fabric remains intact and reliable over time.
The nylon textiles used in the dri1 material are made from 100% recycled content. This choice reduces environmental impact and supports recycling efforts.
Additionally, the materials used in this jacket are Oeko-Tex and Blue-sign certified. While both certifications aim to make textile products safer and lessen bad environmental impact, Oeko-Tex is primarily concerned with the safety of the final product for consumers, ensuring it is free from harmful substances. Bluesign, on the other hand, focuses on the entire production process, aiming to eliminate harmful chemicals and promote more sustainable and safe manufacturing practices.
What are its features?
The anorak features a storm hood designed to accommodate a freeride helmet. Its spacious and comfortably shaped design provides full protection from the elements. The hood can be easily adjusted with just one hand, even while wearing gloves. This is particularly handy in harsh weather conditions where quick tweaks are necessary to maintain visibility and protection.
Articulated elbows follow the natural bend of your arms, enhancing freedom of movement and flexibility. This tailoring technique makes it easier to perform activities requiring a wide range of arm motions, such as climbing or skiing.
For enhanced comfort, the jacket includes soft brushed chin protection. This detail prevents chafing and irritation against the skin, ensuring a snug and pleasant fit around the chin and neck area.
With an asymmetric longer back cut, the jacket provides additional coverage and protection from the elements. This design ensures that your lower back stays covered and warm, even when bending, stretching, or reaching.
Additionally, asymmetric cuffs with Velcro adjustments, combined with the longer back cut, offer extra coverage and protection from drafts and precipitation. These design elements help you stay warm and dry.
The one-hand hem adjustment allows for quick and easy tightening or loosening of the jacket's hem with a single hand. This feature helps seal out cold air and retain warmth, providing a customisable fit that can be adjusted on the go.
Thanks to an exterior hang loop, you can hang the jacket when not in use, whether at the base of a climb or back at camp, keeping it easily accessible for when the adventure calls again.
A convenient radio and key-card pocket located on the over-arm is specially designed for easy access, allowing you to store essential items like a radio or key card securely and within easy reach.
The jacket also comes with a front pocket with internal organisation features. This pocket provides ample storage space for essential items and can be used to organise smaller items such as your phone, wallet, keys, snacks, or tools.
The internal compartments prevent items from shifting around, making the pocket more convenient to use.
