What is the Norrona Men's Trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro Light Jacket?
Meet the Norrona Trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro Light Jacket, the ultimate companion for mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts. This shell jacket is made for demanding alpine climbing but is equally effective for diverse mountaineering activities, including trekking and ski touring.
What is it made of?
The jacket's main body is made of a three-layer Gore-Tex Pro, the world's leading membrane as it provides great waterproofness (28,000mm), breathability (RET less than six), and total windproof protection.
A jacket with a RET value of less than six is considered to have excellent breathability. This allows moisture vapour to quickly escape from the garment's interior to the outside environment, keeping the wearer more dry and comfortable during physical activities.
The Trollveggen jacket also utilises a lightweight 40D construction with a face fabric made entirely from recycled nylon sourced from post-consumer materials.
By diverting these materials from landfills and repurposing them into high-quality fabrics, Norrona reduces its environmental footprint.
This jacket also features a reinforced top hood, shoulders, and elbow panels made from a sturdier three-layer 70Dx160D Gore-Tex Pro.
Elbows are prone to abrasion, especially during hiking, climbing, or skiing. The robust Gore-The Tex Pro fabric offers strong abrasion resistance, minimising the risk of damage and prolonging the lifespan of the jacket.
Despite its sturdiness, the fabric maintains flexibility and allows unrestricted movement, ensuring optimal comfort and performance during dynamic activities.
Additionally, the materials used in this jacket are Oeko-Tex and Blue-sign certified.
Oeko-Tex is a worldwide independent test- and certification system. They ensure that the use of chemicals is aligned with national and international rules and standards.
Bluesign tests and educates textile factories on eliminating harmful substances from the production process and defines control standards for more sustainable and safe production.
What are its features?
The Norrona Trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro Light Jacket is packed with great features.
It has a storm hood that accommodates a climbing helmet, providing great coverage and protection from the elements during outdoor pursuits. This hood's one-hand adjustment feature allows for quick tightening or loosening with just one hand, eliminating the need to fumble with multiple cords or closures.
Articulated elbows are strategically shaped to mirror the natural bend of the arm, providing enhanced mobility and comfort during dynamic movements.
Adding to its versatility, the jacket features asymmetric cuffs with Velcro adjustments. These cuffs ensure a snug fit around the wrist while minimising bulk and interference with gloves or other layers. The Velcro adjustments allow for a personalised fit, sealing out drafts and enhancing warmth and comfort, particularly in cold or windy conditions.
The longer back cut offers extended coverage over the lower back, providing added protection from the elements, especially when bending or tackling those challenging overhangs and cracks during climbing expeditions. It ensures that climbers can maintain focus on their routes without worrying about discomfort from exposure to the elements.
Continuing with functionality, the jacket comes with an X-open underarm ventilation featuring YKK water-resistant zippers. This feature helps air flow better and regulates body temperature and moisture levels, particularly during strenuous activities. Complementing this, the YKK two-way Vislon water-resistant front zipper offers versatile and durable closure options, allowing for easy adjustment of ventilation and access to layers underneath, ensuring comfort and adaptability in various weather conditions.
This jacket also boasts convenient storage options. Its napoleon chest pockets feature YKK zippers, providing easy access to essentials like energy bars, a small first aid kit, or a compact camera for capturing those breathtaking summit views. The internal chest pocket ensures secure space for valuables such as keys, a wallet, or a smartphone, keeping them close and protected from the elements
Thanks to an exterior hang loop, you can hang the jacket when not in use, whether at the base of a climb or back at camp, keeping it easily accessible for when the adventure calls again.
For added safety and visibility, the jacket is equipped with reflective graphics. These graphics work great in low-light conditions, ensuring you stay seen during your various outdoor activities.
