What is the Liddo Jacket?

It's a super lightweight, minimalist shell jacket that provides durable waterproof protection for demanding activities on the rock. Designed primarily for rugged mountain use, the Liddo is ideal for climbing and alpinism when the weather's not playing ball.

What is it made of?

The Liddo Jacket is constructed with 50D Gore-Tex® Paclite®, made of 100% polyester. Paclite® is the ideal lightweight outer layer with great durability to protect you in rugged environments. It's so light that you will barely notice you're wearing it! This material offers breathable, windproof and waterproof performance, thanks to the Gore-Tex® Guaranteed To Keep You Dry™ promise.

Not only is it incredibly functional, but it's super packable too. So whether you're stuffing it into a kit bag or packing it as an emergency layer in your backpack, it'll always be there when you need it without compromising the weight and bulk of your load.

The material is treated with an ePTFE/PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages rain and snow to bead off the fabric instead of soaking in, reinforcing the Gore-Tex® membrane for optimum protection.

Plus, it's Oeko-Tex® certified and bluesign® approved, giving it some extra eco-friendly credentials!

If you were wondering, Oeko-Tex® checks for harmful substances in every material. Certification ensures that none of these nasties are used within the product to promote consumer and environmental safety. bluesign® certification also confirms that these materials avoid the use of harmful substances when manufactured, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity and that the production line used is more transparent and trustworthy.

What are the features?

Elastic on the front of the hood cinches the opening around your face for maximum protection, while adjusters at the back of the hood allow you to dial in the fit precisely. Hard fixing tape around the edge of the hood helps to stiffen the hood's opening, giving it structure so that it doesn't fall into your face when wet, ensuring unhindered vision for steep inclines and technical ascents.

A microfleece chin guard around the top of the zip stops the fastening and materials from rubbing uncomfortably on the skin when the jacket is fully fastened, increasing comfort for long, challenging days.

The zip itself has a two-way functionality that is super handy when you're harnessed in, as it gives you more accessibility and freedom of movement.

On the left side, you have a large chest pocket for essentials like gloves, energy gels or a headlamp. The strategic placing of this pocket makes it incredibly easy to access with one hand, so if you're halfway up a route on the rockface or have an ice axe in one hand, you're not left faffing around in the rain for too long.

Internal elastic on the cuffs draws material around the wrists yet easily accommodates gloves or chunky watches. An adjuster on the hem also helps keep the weather from blowing up inside your jacket, balancing your body's microclimate more efficiently to keep your temperature regulated.

For adventures after dark, the jacket is finished with a thin reflective bar on the back to give you a little more visibility.

Features:

  • Adjustment of the hood at the back and elastic at the front that regulates the size of the hood's opening
  • Hard fixing tape at the edge of the brim to fix the shape of the hood opening
  • Chin guard in microfleece
  • Two-way front zipper that also works for ventilation
  • Large chest pocket on the left side
  • Internal elastic at the cuffs
  • Adjuster at the bottom hem
  • Thin reflective bar at the back

For best performance:

With any new waterproof, we advise you to wash the product with the appropriate tech wash and reapply a fresh DWR to activate the technology and achieve the best performance from day one.

How does waterproof technology work?

Modern waterproof technology often uses a waterproof membrane sandwiched between layers of fabric and a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) on the outer material.

What is 'wetting out', and how does it affect my waterproof?

DWRs commonly get worn down from contact, whether with your backpack or your fingertips. When the DWR wears down, your waterproof product may begin to 'wet out', meaning the water stops beading off the surface and starts to soak in instead.

While the waterproof membrane will prevent the jacket from leaking or water from getting inside, when your jacket wets out, moisture (from sweat or condensation) can build up on the interior, causing it to feel moist.

There's a common misconception that, when this happens, the product is faulty because people believe the waterproof membrane is leaking. However, this is most likely not the case; you simply need to clean your jacket and reapply the DWR.

The easiest way to spot when this is happening is to see if water beads off the material's surface or soaks in.

PFC/PFAS usage in modern waterproof and DWR technology

Most modern DWR technology avoids the use of PFCs/PFAS chemicals.

PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Companies such as Gore-Tex® are also beginning to eliminate these harmful chemicals in their waterproof membranes with technology like Gore-Tex® ePE.

What are PFC/PFAS chemicals?

Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) are also known as forever chemicals and cause environmental harm, similar to PFAS.

PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that also cause detrimental harm to the environment, often through product and garment manufacture.

These chemicals can't break down, so once they reach nature (usually via factory water waste), they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.

How to care for a new waterproof product

PFC/PFAS-free waterproof products still perform effectively. However, they will require more frequent care (washing and reapplying a DWR) to ensure consistency. We stock various care products for this, which you can browse here. If this is your first time doing this, check out our easy how-to guide by clicking here.
