What is the Kanken Art?
It's an exclusive Fjallraven Kanken backpack adorned with the ancestral artwork of Charlene Johnny, a Coast Salish artist from the Quw'utsun tribes of Duncan, BC. The Kanken Art is part of the Arctic Fox Initiative, where part of each sale goes to environmental and climate projects. So, by purchasing this pack, you're not only adding a fantastic accessory to your wardrobe but giving to a worthy cause at the same time!
What is it made from?
This special edition pack is made using Fjallraven's own G1000® HeavyDuty Eco S material. G1000® HeavyDuty Eco is like your standard G1000® on steroids, so to speak. The fabric comprises recycled polyester and organic cotton, giving you a more eco-friendly blend, and has a much smoother finish than standard Fjallraven materials, giving this backpack a more sophisticated, stylish finish.
It's designed to be extra tough, meaning this bag will survive heavy daily use without looking knackered after just a few months. It'll last you years to come and is also water resistant (although not completely waterproof), so you won't have to worry about things getting soaked inside when the weather's a bit naff.
If you want to make the material even more weather-resistant, you can do so with Fjallraven's Greenland Wax (purchased separately). Applying it to the material is simple and can be done almost anywhere! If you'd like to learn how, check out Ben's helpful guide by clicking here.
What are its features?
The Kanken Art proudly boasts the ancestral artwork of Charlene Johnny, a Coast Salish artist from the Quw'utsun tribes of Duncan, BC. Due to the patterned nature of the fabric, each backpack will slightly vary in appearance, adding to the already special and unique design of the bag.
Its iconic shape represents a functional yet stylish design intended to carry A4 books, stationery and essentials easily and comfortably.
The main compartment can be zipped all the way down to the base, revealing the entire contents of the bag, while a small pocket on the front perfectly fits most pencil cases, phones or travel bits and bobs.
Two flat side pockets store additional items, and a removable seat pad sits against your back to stop items from jabbing you in the back.
Pliant webbing shoulder straps are lightweight and durable enough to withstand everyday wear, whilst a handle at the top of the backpack offers a handy grab-and-go option if you're in a rush.
This beautiful backpack is finished with a reflective Fjallraven logo, which helps to increase your visibility when walking or cycling in low light.
