What is the Kanken Rainbow?
It's a special edition of Fjallraven's iconic Kanken. This legendary backpack began its humble life as a cure for Swedish school children's achy backs; shortly after, just about every adult discovered the comfort benefits of the Kanken, leading to one of the most successful and iconic backpacks ever created. Highly versatile, it can be used for commuting, school/college/university, travelling or non-technical walking.
This charming backpack boasts colourful rainbow webbing straps that symbolise diversity, openness and equal rights - perfectly capturing the spirit of outdoor life. It's also part of the Fjallraven Arctic Fox Initiative, meaning part of the sales go towards environmental and climate projects.
What is it made from?
This iconic backpack is made using Fjallraven's hardwearing, water-resistant Vinylon F. This ultra-tough material is designed to be extra robust; it's able to withstand regular wear and abrasion well, meaning this little bag will last you years to come. It's also water resistant (although not completely waterproof), so you won't have to worry about things getting soaked inside when the weather's a bit naff. If the fabric becomes damp, the fibres swell and become more dense, enabling it to withstand moisture without the need for a coating. The Kanken is also really easy to care for and can simply be washed with a sponge and some warm water.
Kanken's are incredibly durable, easy to care for and easy to patch up should you rip a hole or damage it; with regular care, Kanken's are known to last over 20 years, making them a great investment!
What are its features?
The Kanken's iconic shape represents a functional yet stylish design intended to carry a4 books, stationery and essentials easily and comfortably.
The main compartment can be zipped all the way down to the base, revealing the entire contents of the bag, while a small pocket on the front perfectly fits most pencil cases, phones or travel bits and bobs.
Two flat side pockets store additional items, whilst a foam panel sits against your back to stop items jabbing you in the back can also be removed to act as a seat cushion.
Webbing shoulder straps are lightweight and durable enough to withstand everyday wear. A handle at the top of the backpack offers a handy grab-and-go option if you're in a rush.
