What is the Varmland Rucksack?
The Varmland Rucksack is the perfect accessory for everyday life. It's perfect for the dreaded rush hour commute, days out with the family or heading to your local woodland for a nice, relaxing walk.
What is it made of?
The Varmland Rucksack is made of a mixture of sustainable materials, including G1000® HeavyDuty Eco, G1000® Lite Eco and recycled wool.
G1000® is one of Fjallraven's signature materials.
G1000® HeavyDuty Eco and G1000® Lite Eco both use a blend of 65% recycled polyester and 35% cotton, which is exceptionally hardwearing to withstand wear and abrasion from regular use. So what's the difference between the two? G1000® HeavyDuty Eco is impregnated with Greenland Wax on either side, taking its durability to a whole new level, whereas the Lite Eco version is not.
G1000® materials can be adapted to different personal preferences or climatic conditions using Greenland Wax. The wax allows you to customise the fabric's properties, such as wind and water resistance and breathability.
Greenland Wax is easy to apply - you can literally do it anywhere! If you'd like to learn more about how to apply it correctly, check out our short YouTube tutorial by clicking here.
As previously mentioned, the wool is recycled to help reduce the product's footprint and demand for new raw materials. It's incredibly robust and naturally odour resistant, meaning this bag will need little maintenance throughout its lifetime. The wool is used on the bag's front pockets, giving it some fashionable texture and a more country style.
What backsystem does it use?
As the Varmland isn't really a techy pack like your usual daypack, it doesn't have such a techy back system either. However, that doesn't mean it has none at all!
Fjallraven has designed the Varmland Rucksack with a padded back panel that helps prevent items from digging in and a light internal frame to give it structure.
The carry system is comfortable to wear. It has padded shoulder straps and a chest strap to stop the pack's weight from pulling down into your back and shoulders.
What are its features?
This rucksack has a large main compartment to fit all your goodies in. Inside there's also a thermos/bottle holder and a sleeve pocket for storing a seat pad against the back if you want extra cushioning or are heading out for a walk. It's fastened with a top lid and a metal hook closure which is easy to use and compliments the design nicely.
Two pockets on the outside fasten using strap and loop closures which are designed to make no noise when used. They provide plenty of space for smaller belongings you want to keep easily accessible, such as a mobile phone, purse or hill snacks.
For real backcountry activity, there's a loop for attaching an axe on the front, alongside side loops that allow you to connect Fjallraven's Varmland Wool Side Pocket or Singi Side Pocket for extra capacity.
The base of the bag is padded to give your personal belongings some extra protection inside, so even if the bag takes a bit of a beating, your valuables will be safely tucked away.
