What is the Terravia Backpack?
The Terravia 28L backpack is the perfect outdoor backpack for short camping trips, hiking, and long-distance hill walks. It provides ample storage for all your camping and trail essentials and is made with responsible, durable materials in a Fair Trade Certified™ Factory.
What is it made of?
The body of this product is made from a lightweight 70-denier 100% recycled nylon ripstop fabric coated with polyurethane (PU) for enhanced durability and water resistance, while the base uses double the denier for reinforcement. The lining is a 200-denier 100% recycled polyester plain weave, also treated with a PU coating to help extend the lifespan of this pack. For comfort and breathability, the back panel and shoulder straps feature 100% polyester air mesh, which allows extra airflow and reduces moisture build-up during use.
The side pockets are constructed from a blend of 72% recycled nylon and 28% spandex power mesh, offering flexibility and stretch for easy storage. The rain cover is made from 100% recycled polyester taffeta, featuring a PU coating and a durable water repellent (DWR) finish that is free from harmful perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs/PFAS).
PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), commonly used to add water repellent to textiles, are also known as forever chemicals and cause environmental harm, similar to PFAS.
PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that also cause detrimental harm to the environment, often through product and garment manufacture.
These chemicals can't break down, so once they reach nature (usually via factory water waste), they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
All fabrics used for the back panel, shoulder straps, pockets, and rain cover are bluesign® approved, meeting stringent environmental and safety standards.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker healthand safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What backsystem does it use?
The raised backpanel enhances ventilation to minimise sweat and moisture build-up around the main contact point. It's constructed with breathable, lightweight air mesh, as are the shoulder straps, for maximum ventilation and temperature regulation.
The hipbelt helps to distribute the weight when carrying heavier loads, helping to prevent aches and pains from developing throughout the day.
What are the features?
For organisation, this backpack has an internal divider and a separate top pocket with a key clip to keep keys safe and prevent them from falling out of your pack or a pocket.
An internal hydration reservoir sleeve and pass-through sit between the shoulder straps, allowing you to route the tube over either shoulder. Dual side pockets also fit full-sized water bottles if you prefer classic hydration methods.
The front drop-in pocket holds extra layers or damp gear. It features drain holes to help get rid of excess water without making everything inside the pack wet.
A removable rain cover provides extra weather protection for unpredictable or challenging forecasts. You can stow the raincover into the exterior pocket on the bottom of the pack to keep it handy.
