What is the Terravia 36L?
It's a lightweight, durable trekking backpack best suited to multi-day adventures and camping. The Terravia 36L provides 36 litres of storage space and ample organisation for your belongings. Its supportive design enhances comfort and makes a great companion on any trail.
What is it made of?
The body of the product is made from 140-denier 100% recycled nylon ripstop with a PU coating to enhance durability, while the bottom and face are constructed from 210-denier recycled nylon ripstop. The lining is crafted from 200-denier 100% recycled polyester plain weave, also with a PU coating. The back panel and shoulder straps feature 100% polyester air mesh for added comfort and breathability. The side pockets are made from 72% recycled nylon and 28% spandex power mesh for flexibility and to help shave off a few extra grams. The rain cover is 100% recycled polyester taffeta with a PU coating and durable water-repellent (DWR) finish, which is free of PFCs and PFAS chemicals.
PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), commonly used to add water repellent to textiles, are also known as forever chemicals and cause environmental harm, similar to PFAS.
PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyls; these are a group of industrial chemicals that also cause detrimental harm to the environment, often through product and garment manufacture.
These chemicals can't break down, so once they reach nature (usually via factory water waste), they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFCs are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
The back panel, shoulder strap, pocket, and rain cover fabrics are bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a safe way for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker healthand safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What backsystem does it use?
The back panel is constructed with breathable, lightweight air mesh and raised to enhance airflow and prevent sweat buildup from forming at the primary contact point. The harness uses mesh shoulder straps for further breathability and features a hip belt to help distribute weight evenly.
An internal frame provides further support for carrying a fully loaded pack, helping to alleviate weight from the back.
What are the features?
A roll-top closure expands beyond the backpack, providing extra room for more gear. You can roll the closure down further for lighter loads and cinch the top.
You get two hipbelt pockets, a top pocket at the nape of the neck (with a key clip), a front drop-in pocket, and internal security pockets for small valuables like cash, cards, a mobile phone, or ID for maximum organisation.
The internal hydration reservoir sleeve and pass-through sit between the shoulder straps, allowing you to route the drinking tube over either shoulder. Dual-side pockets also fit full-sized water bottles, which is ideal for those who prefer traditional drinking methods or want to carry backup fluids.
The Terravia also comes with a removable rain cover. When not in use, it stows away into the exterior pocket at the base of the pack, keeping it accessible for sharp, sudden showers.
