What is the Abisko Friluft 35?
It's a lightweight, durable and exceptionally comfortable backpack ideal for long days out on the hill, hut-to-hut adventures or minimalist trekking. Its fantastic ventilation and carrying comfort make this pack as well-suited to hiking in warm, humid environments as in typical, wet UK conditions. Packed full of practical details, with a rain cover included, the Abisko Friluft 35 is ready for your lightweight trekking adventures, whatever the weather!
What is it made from?
Outer: The Abisko Friluft is made from super tough 210D recycled nylon. It's highly abrasion-resistant to withstand the rigour of years of outdoor use. Made from 100% recycled materials, it's a more eco-conscious choice than virgin nylon and has a reduced environmental footprint while still being as tough and long-lasting. It's a win-win!
This durable face fabric is coated in PU and finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellant), giving the fabric a hydrostatic head rating of 1500mm, which will protect your belongings from unexpected light rain. For heavier showers, we'd suggest popping on the included rain cover.
Base: The pack's base is reinforced with exceptionally durable 500D recycled nylon, allowing this bag to hold up against a lifetime of scrapes, bashes and abrasion whilst hiking in the hills and rocky mountainside pitstops.
Lining: The Abisko Friluft is lined with a robust 100% recycled nylon lining to help with pack withstand the wear and tear of outdoor use while helping to reduce this bag's environmental impact.
What backsystem does it use?
The Abisko Friluft offers fantastic ventilation, with Fjalraven's Friluft Ventilation backsystem. Designed to be lightweight and stable, this comfortable backsystem has a fixed back length, aluminium frame and mesh back panel that lets air circulate freely against the back. Whilst ergonomic shoulder straps and a supportive hip belt with ventilating air mesh aid a comfortable carry.
What are its features?
The Abisko Friluft's storage has been well thought out for quick and easy access to your items. There is a large top-loading main compartment, a generous front pocket with a protective placket over the zipper and expandable side pockets. The main compartment also has zippers that open up the entire front panel for easy access to contents on the go, eliminating the need to re-pack your gear whenever you need to grab an item from the bottom of your pack.
The top lid floats, so you can extend the backpack capacity and even carry a sleeping mat or pad underneath the lid, should you wish. The top lid also features two pockets for safely stowing smaller quick-access items such as a first aid kit and a power bank. The lid has a bungee cord on the top, so you can quickly attach a layer or two if you start to get warm on steep climbs.
There are two more handy pockets on the hip belt, one of which is mesh, offering space for trail snacks, a mobile phone, sunscreen and other small items that you want to access on the go. Webbing straps under the base of the pack can be used to attach additional bulky items of gear, such as a sleeping mat. Whilst loop and elastic cord attachments down the side of the pack allow you to fasten trekking poles and ice axes securely. An included rain cover offers protection from persistent rain and heavy showers, so you can keep on trekking, even if the weather is a bit more than naff. This functional pack is also compatible with a hydration system, should you wish to carry an additional water bladder.
Finally, the backpack is finished with side compression straps, which help to cinch in any dead space in your pack, providing a more secure and comfortable carry. If you'd like to learn how to pack your hiking backpack correctly, check out our YouTube video here.
