What is the AirZone Active 25?
It's a lightweight, 25 litres backpack made for hiking and hill walking all year round. The AirZone Active is well-ventilated and provides a variety of storage and organisational options to keep your kit in order.
What is it made of?
The Airzone Active 25 is constructed with 50% recycled 210D 6.6 Mini Ripstop with HydroShield and N330D striped dobby. This mixture of materials makes the pack robust enough to resist heavy wear and abrasion from rough surfaces or jagged rocks. The HydroShield coating gives the fabrics a water repellent finish, meaning that light rain and snow will simply bead off the material instead of soaking in, protecting your belongings inside. However, this coating doesn't make it waterproof, so we recommend using the integrated rain cover that comes with the pack if the rain is heavy.
What back system does it use?
There's a clue in the name! This backpack is built with the AirZone™ LT carry system, which is lightweight, streamlined and well ventilated to keep you comfortable in warmer climates or when working up a sweat.
It uses a layer of mesh suspended around an inch away from the actual body of the pack, resulting in a gap which air can continuously pass through. This not only increases ventilation but stops items in the pack jabbing you in the back. The shoulder straps feature a similar mesh on the inside for added grip and comfort. Both the sternum strap and lightweight hipbelt keep the pack securely in place during movement.
What are its features?
Zippered hipbelt pockets are perfect for keeping smaller belongings to hand such as a mobile phone, snacks and energy gels, that you may want to access quickly without having to take the pack off.
Stretch mesh water bottle side pockets help keep chunky bottles from leaking all over your belongings inside whilst leaving space in the main compartment for everything else you need. If you prefer to use hydration bladders, this pack is hydration-compatible and will take a bladder up to 3 litres.
If you use walking poles, you're in for a treat! This pack also comes with TipGripper pole attachments, designed to keep your poles out of the way and safe when they're not being used, alongside a bungee retention system, handy for attaching bulkier items to the outside of the bag.
The front zipped pocket can easily fit a folded map or guidebook and stops it from getting crushed between other bits of kit. A zippered top pocket also offers quick access - I find these pockets ideal for storing a mini first aid kit as there's minimal faff involved with getting it out.
Inside, you have the spacious main compartment and an internal zippered pocket, perfect for valuables like keys or a wallet.
A whistle is built into the sternum strap, allowing you to quickly signal for attention in an emergency. The light loop at the front will enable you to attach something small for improved visibility in poor or dark conditions.
Finally, as mentioned, this pack comes with its own rain cover to give you complete protection from the elements.
